Brighton (A) 29/4: Build-Up & Match Thread

I’m not sure I can watch Costa collapse in a heap after running twenty yards again.

Raul absolutely has to be better than him.

And if they’ve had a punch up, might as well play Hwang or Cunha there for mobility’s sake.

Let’s face it, whoever we play as a centre forward is unlikely to trouble those two colossal Brighton centre back beasts.

I feel that's very harsh, I was a big critic of Costa for most of the season, he was a passenger, however the last month he's been top class. Id like Raul on the bench but JL hates him.
I'd say Costa is ideal against Brightons CBs

He's fine now as a blunt instrument, the younger he would have scored a couple last night or at least got shots away when his mind was trying to tell his legs to do things they can't. Not his fault, just old father time and clearly our best option

You are Raul’s wife and I claim my prize! Costa has his limitations but has done very well recently and gives 100% all the time he’s on the pitch, which sadly hasn’t been the case with Raul for some time.

I thought Gomes was pretty crap when he came on last night?

Wouldn't say he was superb, however he won the ball 2/3 times when it seemed impossible for him to do so, was right Infront of us in the side stand. One of them and a nicely timed pass set Costa away when he went clean through.

He wasn’t as good as his previous appearances which were excellent. Always difficult coming on as a sub when the team haven’t strung three passes together in the previous half hour.

That’s really harsh. I thought he was excellent against Palace.

I want us to approach this game as we would do if it were at home. The same starting 11 you'd play, the same substitutions you'd make dependant on the match situation, the same intensity from kick off. Moutinho only to come on with 20 minutes or less to go to make a midfield 3 to hold a result position you are happy with and no other eventuality bar injury crisis

Now the pressure is off a bit hopefully Lopetegui can start to really explore who does and doesn't fit what he wants to do next season.

I know his team's have never been swashbuckling attacking units but whenever I saw Sevilla they created plenty of chances while suffocating the opposition with possession.

Centre half is the most obvious position which needs to be upgraded if we want to have what he had at Sevilla. Dawson & Kilman aren't exactly the same calibre as Kounde & Carlos.

I agree, they slow a lot up with distribution, I don't think any of our wide forwards fit the style either.

I think their lack of pace and confidence defending the space behind themselves is a bigger issue tbh. At the moment it doesn't matter how dominant we are, we're always vulnerable in behind, the goal at Villa Park being the most obvious example.
