Boxing thread

Maybe boxing should be banned due to the danger.

The benefits of boxing far outweigh its dangers. Luckily, instances like last night are few and far between and when they do occur, the medical expertise and treatment ringside mean that the boxers chances are much improved.

If you watch the corner when the uppercuts are going in in the 6th one of the guys even says for fuck sake and his face is a picture.

I think the issue with the corner was in previous fights he'd worn his opponents down and then taken over. That was never going to happen in this as he'd taken too much punishment. Very bad judgement by his corner.

Sorry maybe I should leave this thread to boxing fans, but I cannot see what pleasure people get watching one man beat up another man. Though that is just my opinion, and a lot of people like boxing so there must be something more than that which attracts people to it.

The cage is there for the fighters safety as it stops them getting thrown out or falling out while grappling. They don't use it as a weapon to throw their opponent into and they aren't allowed to hold on to it plus there are several padded areas in between each panel of the cage.

I was being slightly sarcastic!! Whenever I watch it I always think of the Running Man (book)

I don't like the beating up aspect at all. I do enjoy watching two skilled operators work each other out and use their abilities to out do each other.

I also hugely respect them as athletes.

Fwiw the worst injuries I've ever seen in sport live are not in a boxing ring, or a rugby or football pitch , but during a hockey game. Ugh.

He's one hard bastard is Nick Blackwell. Doesn't look it! But is. Highly respected too, froch used him for sparring.

I imagine a joint decision but ultimately his trainer. All it takes is literally throwing a towel in and the ref stops.
Ahhh, his cutman for the fight was/is a relative of mine, don't get to see him all that often but be interesting to find out where he stood on it.

Nick Blackwell has woken from his induced coma, following his fight with Chris Eubank Jr last week.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital after the British middleweight title contest was stopped in round 10.

Blackwell woke from the induced coma on Saturday and by Sunday was talking to family and friends at his bedside, promoters Hennessey Sports have said.

They added that Blackwell had suffered a bleed on the skull and not the brain as initially reported.

"It was the outcome everyone had been hoping and praying for; Nick had won his toughest fight yet," Hennessey Sports added.

"Nick Blackwell won the hearts of over three million television viewers on 26 March with an astonishing display of all-action bravery and determination.

"In the past week, however, he has humbled millions more. He's a fighter. He's a warrior. He's a true champion and gentleman.

"On behalf of Nick, his family, and very close friends, we'd like to thank everyone for their continued support and well-wishes. It has been overwhelming at times and has certainly not gone unnoticed."

Joshua in 2 and its all over. Too much speed and power. It will take something very special to stop him. David Haye should keep clear. Fury could try and spoil but if Joshua hits you, you stay hit.

AJ put in a really good display, I'm impressed by him and his attitude, hopefully he's got a long career ahead of him at the top.

Thought the undercard was particularly strong on Saturday, Selby, Groves and Nigel Benns son were all entertaining for different reasons.

As someone who isn't too clued up on his boxing, would anyone be able to tell me who AJ's likely to fight next?

Joseph Parker would be my guess, unless he has a
Mandatory in which case it's whoever is below him in the ibf rankings.
Erkan Teper is next on the old rankings.
He should then be able to choose.

I have a feeling Haye will be sooner rather than later. It may be that July is not the right time and Joshua gets Parker or similar. Easily capable of disposing anyone. I predicted he would rule for a decade and he could do if he keeps the same level of skill and fitness matched to his work ethic and attitude. Probably only Joshua beats Joshua at the moment.

Its too soon for him to fight Haye imo - Whyte troubled him because of his power and movement, Haye has that plus experience. Another couple of fights for AJ and then he should easily beat Haye.

Haye v Fury or AJ v Fury would be a good fight, I think both of them would knock him out
