Boris at it again and the contest to replace the lying c***

Just a play to try and get the Boris fans onside
Which in itself, makes no sense.

The fat oaf has played a huge part in them becoming electorally toxic even in areas where they always, always win. You want to distance yourself from him if you can.

I don't think there are "Boris fans" in July 2022. Beyond the man himself doing this in the mirror every morning.

Still plenty left in those who will be voting though (and that includes a few MP's).

And Talk Radio, its like the Trumpian Cult

The phone in on 5live post his resignation would suggest otherwise.
I'll rephrase...

There aren't enough "Boris fans" to make saying such a ridiculous thing worthwhile.

Nigel Farage has fans. I wouldn't give him a Cabinet job either.

At the risk of repeating myself you are appealing to a very niche set of people - less than 0.3% of the population. With them I still think there's a decent level of support for him and he's a victim of the press and back stabbing MP's.

Even this tiny subset hate him.

And this is from the end of May, so it's probably even worse now.

A few wingnuts phoning in to a radio station means nothing.

Last week Penny Mordaunt had to remove people from her campaign video who had not given permission to be in it. Now it seems she has stolen someone else’s logo…FB_IMG_1657700254616.jpg

I've had several conversations in the last few days with apparently rational, intelligent people who are only moderately engaged with politics. They watch the 6pm news, pick up a Sunday newspaper occasionally - not on Twitter, don't read news websites all day. They all thought Johnson was doing an OK job and was treated badly by his party. They weren't particularly fussed by the parties and the lying. They weren't aware of/didn't care about a lot of the other stuff. They'd very much bought the narrative that he'd faced unprecedented challenges and was doing the best he could. "And they're all the same anyway." There wasn't the anger that you see online. More a sense that they couldn't see what all the fuss what about.

Even though the Tories got trounced in the last by-elections, they got 30% (8k votes) in Wakefield, and 38% (16K votes) in Honiton. That's still a lot a of people prepared who approve of/are prepared to overlook what's been going on in the last few years.

Agree with all sla says. There's a lot out there who think "he isn't that bad ". They're not cheerleaders per se, but appear content with him. Personally I can't fathom why, but that's the case. There's also a lot of "They're all as bad as each other ".
One thing I dread, is if he doesn't remain in government he will then create a cult arguing that brexit would have been an overwhelming success if he'd remained in charge. It won't, as it's a mess & getting worse, but it is what he will promote, and his cult will take the bait.

He won't, he'll have bugger all to do with politics once he leaves. Can't ever get the top job again and all he wants are the trappings of power, not actual work. Also he doesn't really think Brexit is a good idea, he doesn't think anything really.

I'm not sure. He'll certainly be blowing his trumpet in the right wing press, who will still see him as box office.

Book tours and speaking events to minted MAGA groups is his future
Saw something the other day saying he would earn £100m fairly easily when he finally goes.

Surprised he hasn't said fuck this I am off already. Would finally be able to afford the Salad Bowl they forget to get in the refurb.

I'm not sure he will unless there's an American market which will lap up his tired old act. Everyone has seen behind the curtain now.

His writing is fucking shit, be it books or columns, and the Telegraph have pretty much disowned him. He'll do memoirs but they'll belong in the fiction section. As he has no capacity for self-reflection I can't imagine there'll be much worth reading in there and in reality, his time in any office of any standing was insignificant with no actual achievements.

"I signed a deal I wanted to rip up six months later and I caught Covid" isn't much of a tagline.

I’m on the other side of this one - the conversations I’ve had with moderately engaged people (generally conservative voters) would suggest people are fucking livid with the lies, parties and all of the other stuff. You don’t need to be politically engaged at all to be outraged at the behaviours and outright abuse of power in public office.

In fact, I go so far as to say it says an awful lot about the individuals themselves prepared to dismiss such abuse than it does about any lack of insight.
