I put £20 on Mordaunt being next Tory leader over a year ago when she was around 20/1. Sticking by her as my pick for who's next, not convinced by any polls so far simply because the vast majority of ordinary people have fuck all idea who most politicians are outside of the PM and Chancellor, even the LOTO.

I don't think this is true. We're all ordinary on here and can name at least a half dozen MP's who were in the cabinet.

Unfortunately there's a lot of polling going back many years that would disagree!

If you stick around long enough you're inevitably gonna get name recognition building up, but most people aren't like us, sitting on a message board talking about politics.

Johnson was obviously visible outside of politics long before he became a serious front bench figure. In fact prior to becoming Mayor of London he'd done pretty much fuck all as an MP. He had a minor Shadow Cabinet role under Howard and got sacked for being a lying cunt, that was it.

Counts for a lot, it's correct to say that the majority of people aren't as engaged as our little community is.

What's nuts is that Michael Gove has probably been the only half-competent member of the cabinet since 2019, and the only Housing minister to do anything worthwhile since the Tories got back in. Of the Cabinet that was in place on Monday I reckon the following would be widely recognised by people who have a casual to limited interest in politics:

Johnson (obviously)
Sunak (plastered his own mug over a load of the Covid stuff)
Truss (Instagram bellend, takes loads of credit for stuff that has nothing to do with her)
Gove (been around for absolutely ages)
Dorries (was on shit reality TV, regularly goes viral for being a moron)
Mordaunt (as above without the moron bit, she could well be one but doesn't make it as obvious as Merlot Nads)
Rees-Mogg (widely known as he's such a weird bastard)

That's it. I'd say even Patel isn't *that* recognised, let alone the likes of Kwarteng, Shapps, Barclay and Zahawi. It's not many and a large portion of them have a 0% chance of becoming the next Prime Minister.
