Boris at it again and the contest to replace the lying c***

Whoever once told Johnson that he's funny needs a smack in the ribs.

He's like a bad Jim Davidson tribute act.

It’s the sort of line that would open a ‘Gentleman’s evening’ at a working man’s club in the 80’s.

For Christ’s sake it 2022 and a Tory MP’s dinner. I suspect many of them would’ve been quite happy with half a hour of that and two hours of strippers.

Keeping us lockdown mentioned 3 times in replies to Starmer, Labour 1997 Manifesto on Nuclear Power, claims to be a tax cutter, the bullshit bingo from him today is off the scale.

We haven't been in what most of us would consider "lockdown" (as opposed to minor restrictions that impacted on little, day to day) for nearly a year, of all his lines that's the most egregiously ridiculous.

I must remember that.

"Ok Dan, you've been found guilty of stealing your neighbour's car, on the basis of CCTV evidence and forensics left inside the vehicle that match you, and you only"

"Well I just don't accept that"

"Ok, this is awkward. I guess you can go then"

I think it's the case that technically it's only when the fine is paid that there is an admission of any wrong doing.
A fine being issued is effectively like a charge being brought, when one has the option to accept the charge or challenge it.
Of course fines will be paid, so it will be the case that the law was broken and that Alex was lying to the House, but as always with him it's kicking the can down the road a bit more...

He's going for a longer delaying tactic than that.

The PM’s spokesperson told journalists:

We are maintaining our position. There is an ongoing process here. The Met have come to a conclusion and have started a process which relates to 20 fines, and we respect that.
We will not be commenting further on the detail of what happened until the investigation is concluded.
It simply would not be right for me to give the prime minister’s view in the midst of an ongoing Met police investigation.

I don't think that's the case. I think your explanation works if a person is offered a caution, instead of another penalty, and chooses to accept the caution. By accepting the caution they are accepting guilt for whatever act has taken place.
By issuing the FPN, the met have concluded that sufficiently evidenced breaching of the law has taken place, and the applicable sanction is the fine.
If the person fined disagrees, it is a matter of them appealing via due process to receive confirmation no illegality has taken place.

Of course for the little people, there was no straightforward way to appeal Covid fines. Technically you could do it, but you'd definitely require the help of a good lawyer and you'd probably lose as well.

With this lot they seem to have an automatic 28 day period in which they can deny the offence(s).

It's unbelievable how regular and generally unchallenged transphobia is in this country.
I find it interesting that the group that seems to feel most threatened by transgender folk are traditional feminists - having unisex toilets shared with male predators who can simply say they identify as female is one huge issue.

I think the trans cause is really damaged by the approach to competitive sport. Having trans women who went through puberty as male competing in women's events is seen by many as ridiculous and consequently they become unreceptive to transgender issues in general.

Edit. I posted this before seeing Andy's post
