Another great story from last week was when he had to isolate last time (which may or may not have been at another *convenient* moment, I can't remember). No 10 staff set everything up so he was more or less confined to his study and they could talk to him through an open door. But he kept walking out despite express instructions not to. So they had to stack up some chairs across the doorway to block him in. Literally what you have to do with a toddler.

The "restrictions" in England since December haven't impacted on anyone really though, people are well used to mask wearing now (or just don't bother), the work from home guidance is just that, guidance, so nothing there, hospitality still open, social distancing or limits on numbers meeting up isn't a thing, sport still going on, there's no great liberation there as in 2020 or 2021 and you can't keep banging on about vaccines forever, it's old news. It's not an easy win for him, in fact it's not any kind of win.

The story isn't going to disappear.

If he thinks us threatening to have the Navy machine gun immigrants in the sea or saying "we're going to hammer the BBC" will help him then he is very much deluded on that front. These aren't actually policies that anyone outside of serious headbangers believes in.

This is why I think the Tories are actually in pretty deep shit medium to long term. He's purged the reasonable ones who'd pull the party to the more popular centre. He was elected on a promise to sort Bexit and end austerity.

Brexit is done even though it'll continue to have ramifications for years to come. It's no good having someone like Johnson as the PM when you can install someone ultra right wing who'll try and take advantage of all the "benefits" of Brexit.

The problem is that whilst those benefits might sound great to someone like Steve Baker and his ERG mates, they won't be to the wider electorate. I think the referendum result itself might be seen by historians as the beginning of the decline of the Tory party, it's been riven by issues around Europe for years and Brexit itself is only the start.

David Frost resigning the other day citing the direction the Govt is taking in respect of our relationship with Europe shows it's far from a settled issue for them.
