This is spot on IMO, I think it's all part of a general decline in western civilization as dramatic as that sounds.
As shit as some things are, the essentials work, most of the time, like water coming out the tap, food being in the shops, medical care, electricity, you could go on and on. The fact we've got all these things is a miracle, the norm throughout history has been misery, disease and death. The things we take for granted as being just the way things are is down to extreme competence over a sustained period of time. So many areas of the world today are evidence of just how fucked up things can be, and how quickly that could be here.
The level of complacency and incompetence on display at the minute is terrifying. I saw a Tory MP the other day saying it'd be a good thing if supply chains broke down because it'd mean the local farmer could sell stuff in the village, just total insanity. It's getting to the point of vandalism through incompetence.
