Is Kilrush that little village where you drive across a long bridge over a lake, and theres a pub at the end of the bridge?
If so, that's probably my favourite place in Ireland - so tranquil in the evening when the sun goes down over the lake

No Rob, The town itself lies slightly behind a kind of lagoon which has a narrow entrance from the sea, but it's not near a bridge at all.
Not sure where you're thinking of... Kilkee is far more attractive sitting on an archetypical curved beach surrounded by little headlands. Absolutely lovely.

Howth is gorgeous. Lots of lovely seafood restaurants dotted around the harbour.

it is indeed gorgeous and the seafood spot on but my god it was busy! Insane amount of people in such a small place.

Seems everyone in Ireland decided as it was a very hot day day they would all head for a day out there on the Sunday.

Did you walk over the headland to the Baily Lighthouse?
Fantastic views over Dublin Bay to Dun Laoghaire and Killiney.
That big long arm of a causeway to the Red Bull Lighthouse was built from stone that came from Killiney where ever since, there's a fucking big hole in the ground busy becoming overgrown pretending to be a disused quarry.

Back home now. Doing walks was a tad difficult with an 80 year mother in law on the trip but we did got out and about a lot

Not really no.

Only places felt ripped off was in the obvious places like Temple Bar. Howth pushed it with £11 for fish and chips but everywhere else was fine.
Tons of free parking and I think paying £39 for 3x top quality sea food meals plus drinks in a restaurant, as we did in Cork, was decent.

Fuel slightly cheaper than here as well

I need to see your exact itinerary, because clearly I'm going to the wrong places!
I meet up with my mate once a month and we frequently go to Howth, and the last time I was there, we got Fish + Chips + mushy peas for €15. Drinks extra.
That said, we walked over Tower Bridge (in London) last Monday, 1st Pub on the left - Tower Bridge Arms, Pie chips and veg for me, Burger for my daughter and a chicken breast salad + 3 drinks.... £65!

We're staying about a 10 minute walk from the end of Princes Street. Towards Dean Village Which will be behind our apartment.

Princes Street in itself is worthwhile, very long with Princes Street Gardens below the castle. The Royal Mile leading to the castle too with the old town below it. At the top end of Princes Street is Calton Hill with great views over the Firth of Forth. Over the road from Calton Hill back on Princes Street is a fantastic cemetery full of the graves of the great and the good of Victorian Edinburgh, there is another similar cemetery at the other end of Princes Street. Deans Village is worth a walk to as well.

Had a pint of Best in The White Hart Inn but there are many fine pubs besides

Guildford Arms, The Halfway House, World's End, Hanging Bat are my usual pubs when I'm in Edinburgh. Lycan is your best bet to ask though.

I went years ago on business but didn't get chance to do the tour of the old town underneath. The people I was working with recommended the tour so i took that as a sign it's worth doing!

Its a wonderful city and so much to see and do. I am a longstanding Scottophile though, love it all over up there
