Best holiday destinations

Amsterdam was, erm, different... With my job I avoided the rather smokey coffee shops but the stench on the streets, especially at night, was pretty strong!

The actual holiday was fine though

Traditionally, a lot of the Portugeuse immigrants in Jersey are from Madeira and subsequently the cafes and restaurants reflect Madeiran cuisine. Bolo do Caco, Milho Frito, Espetadas, Picado, Cozido, Bacalhau, grilled limpets are common menu favourites.

We're off to Northumberland in a week or two.
Staying in a lovely AirbnB fairly close to Alnwick.
We will be going to Bamburgh Castle and probably Lindisfarne.
Anyone visited there and found something lovely?
I'm going to be taking photos with my new long lens so if anyone is a photo type person and can suggest a particular place to go, well, that'd be just great thanks!

Cragside would be spectacular this time of year if you catch it before all the leaves drop, not far inland from Alnwick.

It's a great area, loads of castles to visit including Alwnick and Bamburgh of course. Lindisfarne is interesting bur be careful of the times on the causeway.
Cragside at Rothbury also good (National Trust)
Coastlines excellent plus you Have the Cheviots nearby and Keilder Water.

In my enthusiasm, I checked out and made a list of all the castles and ruins. 75 within that area, but because of the time of year I think there are only about 6 we can get into as most aren't open during the week!.
But Bamburgh is getting all rigged out.

Flying out to Tenerife in the morning for a few days.

Staying in the north of the island in Puerto De La Cruz but have a car to get around - any recommendations on activities, things to do, good restaurants etc. welcome!

definitely go up mount teide. As I remember if you are at the top of the mountain in the early morning and look west over the Atlantic it casts the largest shadow on earth.

Puerto is the prettiest resort in my view. Take in the botanical gardens whilst you`re there. Of course, there is the Lido, never went there ourselves, not our cup of tea. Decent coastal walk too.

Ranilla Brewery in Puerto de la Cruz is a decent bet. The Craft Room at Santa Cruz.

As many on here will confirm Brugge is a fantastic place.

If anyone is going I fully recommend this place to stay at

Amazing guest house with just the 5 rooms. 400 year old building and 170 or so years ago was the studio and showroom for Samuel Coucke, who loved a bit of fancy glazing.

Bit worrying that every visit to the bathroom meant the Pope was watching though...

The owner is great and acts like your grandma at feeding time....never ending supply of food at breakfast

Contemplating going to the Algarve in September, never been before, rather than Lanzarote again, you know me I love the sun, all advice appreciated.

Stayed in a smaller resort just outside Albufeira a few years back, can get yourself a trip to Lisbon or Seville though they're a decent distance away but found the local public transport largely non-existent so getting other places was much more difficult than similar resorts been to in Spain. Weather would be right up your street though, particularly if you ventured to Seville.

Cheers mate, I’m booking. ;)

Drove to both Sevilla and Lisbon from the Albufeira area.

Only downside was the 90 mins it took to drive out of Lisbon back to the motorway

I’ll be all inclusive, won’t be venturing any further than the pool, the bar and the restaurant.

Can't do that these days, like to get about and explore the area and other towns

Currently looking at a holiday for my 50th that will start in Chicago and then drive to Niagra and then Boston. Absolutely love all the small towns and shit as you drive and explore in-between the bases for staying

Each to their own I suppose, as someone who has porridge with blueberries every morning for breakfast followed by a treadmill workout I enjoy two or three weeks of ridiculous over indulgence every year.
