Rome is amazing. As with all cities, avoid the very centre for food - go to Trastevere which is a 10-15 minute walk over the Tiber. So still close to the centre. Loads of amazing restaurants which serve vastly superior food for half the price. And still lots of pretty squares to sit in etc.

The Forum/Colosseum/Palatine and Capitoline hills are all absolutely fantastic places. I could have spent a whole week geeking out on Ancient Roman history around there.

I got in the Vatican in shorts. Mrs had to buy a scarf thing from some street vendor though as apparently her skirt wasn't long enough.

Yeah I was wearing shorts too. I went in 2008 so maybe its changed since then? Or they found Aiki's legs offensive. Actually, it's probably the latter.

Bloody hell, you've introduced another option now that I hadn't considered, lol

You say offensive, I say jealous! Anyway, from the Vatican website, no shorts (or miniskirts if that's your bag) allowed!

Back to Florence and Siena for a moment. If you are in that bit of Tuscany, San Gimignano is well worth a trip. Stunning place, and the architecture is unreal.

San Gimignano, is that the village with the 13 towers? If so it’s stunning.

Guys, I am currently in Budapest and cannot recommend it highly enough. Hotel moments in district 5 is class and convenient for everything. Even with a shit pound it's tidy value. Clean, friendly and safe. Your call , naturally but if you're looking for a city break to keep your other half sweet yet don't want a second mortgage you would do a lot worse than look here

Love Budapest. Been twice, first was my stag do, in January and it was minus 15....still ace though.

Yes another one who loves Budapest. Brilliant place, great food at night too.

Never done Budapest(big cities and fully loaded touring bikes are not great)cycled a fair chunk of the rest of Hungary, hated it, after Slovakia and Romania where the people were friendly, every village had a little shop, (important if you're a touring cyclist) Hungarians were distinctly unfriendly, roads were terrible, police terrible(I kept getting stopped and searched, often by the same coppers driving up and down the road, had to empty every single thing out my panniers every time) villages had no shops, just a government office, awful place, done it twice, hated it twice.
Lake Balaton is nice though, enjoyed that little bit of Hungary

I wore a Jesus Is A C*** vestal virgin t-shirt to The Vatican

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. To realise you were a bellend

This is exactly what I'd do. Florence is wonderful
Third vote for this, exactly what we did. Flew into Pisa, visited the tower ate some lunch and then used the train to get to Florence.
