Beer

Blue Moon? It's not that good IMHO.

Rank choice in town last prior to seeing Quo at the Civic. Rockin’ Rudolph in The Giffard, tasted just like dish water. Then a Hobgoblin in the Civic which was just rancid. Luckily squeezed three pints of Chop & Change in the Dog & Doublet which was fucking lush (and cheaper than the Hobgoblin).

Hobgoblin is utter dreck these days. Amazing how far beer has come in the last 10 years, considering that used to be the best thing on tap in town.

Surprised you had cash for more beer after going to the Giffard. Always found that place really expensive.

Only had one in there, couldn’t subject myself to more of that piss.

Had a fantastic time in London this weekend and had a lot of excellent beverages. Visited some awesome places - started traditional at the Bree Louise in Euston, but called at the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich, and quite a few breweries in Bermondsey which was amazing for good beer (Brew By Numbers, Anspach and Hobday, Hawkes and a top place called The Bottle Shop) before finding a superb pub in the centre of Bermondsey. Yesterday we went to The Kings Arms in Bethnal Green before visiting Mother Kellys before heading home.

Pretty tired today!

Beers checked in:

Oskar Blues - Pinnar Throwback IPA
N1 - Hammerton Brewery
Brewery Fresh Pale Ale - Meantime
Yakima Red - Meantime
Totem American IPA - Haresfoot
11|27 Session IPA: Azacca - Brew By Numbers
55|06 Double IPA: Galaxy and Mosaic - Brew By Numbers
Helles Saaz Tettnanger - Cloudwater
Exit Right - Cloudwater
Spratwaffler - Time and Tide
Summer Blonde - Anspach and Hobday
Graff Apple Pale Ale - Hawkes
Pale Ale Zeus - Kernel
Suspended in Oats - Siren Craft Brew
Steady Rolling Man - DEYA Brewing Company

The Greene King beer? Had it last year and agree it was rank.

Hardys & Hansons, although I'd have believed it was Greene King if I didn't know any better.

Cloudwater have released their seasonal 750ml bottles, they look fucking ace but at £168 for all twelve or £96 for a pack of six (six BA or six wild) I think I’ll give them a miss. Or just pick one or two.

1 x Bourbon BA Christmas Cake Stout
1 x Bourbon Chocolate Imperial Stout
1 x Bourbon Black Forest Stout
1 x Speyside Chocolate Imperial Stout
1 x Speyside Black Forest Stout
1 x White Wine BA Imperial Golden Ale
1 x Spirit Animal Elderflower
1 x Spirit Animal Loquat Elderflower
1 x White Wine BA Winberry Cosweisse
1 x Francois BA Biere Brut
1 x Chuckle du Haut
1 x BA Cosweisse

Unfortunately there's not a lot else available on the Cloudwater store and the minimum quantity of 4 big bottles means I can't be dropping that much on an order from them. Will wait and see if The Wine Seller gets any in. Really want the BA Brut for Christmas morning.

Minimum of four? Fuck that. I was going to order three of the Stouts and a few DIPAs but I’m not shelling out £100 for what would essentially be seven beers, regardless of how good they are.

Honest Brew order has arrived! In the box:

Edge - Voila - 5.6%
Siren - Liquid Mistress - 5.8%
Arbor - Smac My Brew Up - 4.8%
Boundary - G.O.A.T. - 5%
Lost and Grounded - Hop Hand Fallacy 4.4%
Wylam - Macchiato - 6.5%
Basqueland Brewing Project - Equinox - 4.8%
Pressure Drop - Pale Fire APA - 4.8%
Wild Horse - Dark Bay Porter - 5%

Cans:

Metalman - Sgt Pepper Sage and Pepper Saison 4.8%
Beavertown - Neck Oil 4.3%
Magic Rock - Inhaler 4.5%

I've only previously had Neck Oil and Dark Bay Porter from all those so plenty of new ones to try.

And bought 2 bottles for my better half (who absolutely loves real/craft ale) when I was in London:

Buxton - Axe Edge 6.8%
Brew By Numbers - 02|17 Golden Ale Mosaic Amarillo Delta - 5%

Let me know what you think of the Macchiato, had one the weekend.

It certainly sounds the most interesting!!

It was my last go at giving Wylam another chance, I generally tend to avoid their beers as I haven't been impressed with any I've had so far and Club of Slaughters was the tipping point for me. Macchiato is decent though.

Fair play giving away a bottle of Axe Edge! Don't think I could bring myself to do that!

Wylam have been more hit than miss for me, definitely. Their new DDH cans have been ace. Jakehead is a classic and I really liked their collab IPA with Yeastie Boys. Hickey The Rake was superb too. Only iffy ones for me were Club of Slaughters (too much aniseed) and Haxxan (way too much cinnamon spice) but that's more down to flavour profile than quality of brewing.

I thought Jakehead was pretty average and I can't remember the other one I tried but I just remember thinking it was nothing special. I am giving them another whirl and have got a Nomi Sorachi on the shelf, it's hard to go wrong with Sorachi so that might just get them back onside.
