Beer

I see Lidl have moved into the craft beer market with their Hatherwood brand. The standard bitter they sell in cans is bloody awful (and I wish my dad would stop buying it) but has anyone tried any of the newer bottled stuff? Nice labels, cheap prices obviously, but what's it like?

The Green Gecko IPA #2 and the Amber Adder #3 are pretty decent, especially for the price. The craft lager (Gnarly Fox??) is ok if you want a cheap but decent lager. The Golden Goose and Ruby Rooster are shite, don't bother with them. Not tried the others - Purple Panther Porter and the Ginger Beer one.

A Rooster's Yankee to finish off proceedings. Good stuff.

We're going to Devon in a couple of weeks.

Any local beers anyone can recommend?

Bay's are a decent brewery. Firebrand and St. Austell from Cornwall are both ace.

Slater's will have Gamma Ray on over the weekend apparently. Also getting some Brew Dog in next week. Noticed they had Cloudwater Seville Orange Sour this week too.

The selection seems to be ticking along nicely.

I'll be popping in Saturday. I think I might put in an order with BrewDog as well, the Punk and 5am Saint have won me over. The Elvis Juice sounds really good.

Use 'equitypunk' for a 20% discount on the Brewdog online shop....

I loved the Elvis Juice prototype they did. Not sure if it's the same recipe as the final product, but it was way better than Punk.

Fucking star Will. I'll definitely be ordering now. I've been looking into that Equity for Punks as well, maybe worth a punt...

I didn't really like Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin or Magic Rock Grapefruit Highwire so hesitant to try Elvis Juice.

Booz, you should definitely try more Brewdog beers, they very rarely let you down. I hear they're going to stop brewing Libertine though which is disappointing, one of my go to beers over the past few years.

They're giving away free 2 week equity cards in their bars and that code is on the back of them!

I loved the extra zing and bitterness that the grapefruit added to the Elvis Juice. Still bags of hop flavour though, so perhaps not as dominant as the others you mention.

Yeah, they're not brewing Libertine this year as Arcade Nation is their new black IPA. I didn't really like Liberine though. Too hoppy for a black beer.

I prefer Libertine to Arcade personally but I can see how the lower ABV might appeal to the kind of customers BD are targeting with their core range. I had a taste of their B Side Black IPA today and that was quite nice.

Don't expect anything special in Darlington or Boro!

The first Elvis Juice was orange based, haven't tried the new one.
