Beer

Going to Bruges next month, anyone got any suggestions for decent Belgian beers to look out for?

I prefer to use the dutch Brugge, given the location in East Flanders. Seek out the rare Westvleteren, Erasmus would be a starting place for that. If you are really polite you might be allowed to smuggle a couple of bottles out of the country. Always ask for the beer menu rather than just pick a draught beer.
I haven't been there for a while but that was my experience on many visits.

I'm really hoping the Western has some Thornbridge - Jaipur on when I get there tomorrow. I could only have one pint of it as it's rocket fuel (5.9% I think) but it's absolutely beautiful stuff.

They had it on the 'coming soon' board when we were in on Tuesday before the game.

For anyone interested I ended up with in Tesco, guess what, the ONLY out of stock cider was damn Katy's.

I ended up with these

Just opened one, not too bad. Don't think I've tried dry cider before

Thanks to good old Virgin and my lateness at booking this weeks tickets meaning I'm travelling 1st class I'm currently enjoying a beer from Peru called Cusquena, not a bad drop especially as its included in the price of the ticket, happy days

I didn't want to appear pretentious hence the UK spelling.

googled Erasmus and it looks pretty good from what I've read and seen and I found a good forum on Belgian beers beacuse of it. Thanks for the tip. The Westvleteren sounds interesting not too fond of blond beers (probably because they don't really travel that well) but the 2 stronger varieties sound quite interesting.

I've been to Brugge before (only for 1 night) but got somewhat inebriated and my memory is rather hazy about the evenings events.

Westvleteren isn't blond by any stretch of the imagination. Go easy though!

The site I saw said they had a blonde and a couple of much stronger alternatives one was 6.8% and the other 10.2% both sound more than a match for me that's for sure.

Cusquena is a fine beer indeed

Old Rosie is absolute rocket fuel. It's on draught in my local and i'm beginning to get a real taste for it.
