Arsenal 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I think you are all being far too negative about the tactics, sure we were under the cosh and a bit more calm possession would have been nice, but I thought the tactics were pretty good. They barely looked like scoring until later on. Sa had made one save.
If Jimenez or Neto had stuck their chances away it would have been job done.

Atkinson was rubbish but no why we lost. The offside wasn’t a goal kick it was an offside we just weirdly took it from the six yard box
I'm not sure that's right, but it would make sense. Raul, Moutinho etc certainly thought it was a goal kick.

I said myself he wasn't the reason we lost. 🤷‍♂️

Raul was fucking useless. I might have imagined it, but I swear he was good at holding the ball up before? Didn’t win a single aerial ball, didn’t hold it into feet and was second to every ball up top. This isn’t the first time either

Raul should've scored but he won plenty in the air tonight. His hold up play was poor though.

Wow, some what i feel are very harsh verdicts here.

Often it's not a choice to defend, but it's because of the opposition. They made good subs, had the emphasis and had the crowd (and the ref) with them.

Quick note on the ref, i'm not blaming him for the result but i feel he made some decisions that rattled us and were just varying levels of abysmal:

  • Gave offside for a goal kick, not just him, but the linesman too. Unbelievable.
  • Hwang gets elbowed in the face, no stoppage, no acknowledgment of the knock, just play on. He was literally holding his face after being elbowed in it.
  • Coady clean through on goal, oh no, a mystery touch that leads to White falling, Atkinson buys it, a huge chance for us there, an absolutely appalling decision.
  • He books Raul for refusing to go off, when he isn't the player who is being subbed, it was this one that i felt really got under our skin.
  • Neto clear deflection on his shot that went for a corner, but no, a goal kick
  • Hwang plays it off Saka, oh no, it's a corner instead.

All of these things change the emphasis of the game, and more than likely mean we get at least a point.
I’m with you here. We weren’t great but the sky hasn’t fallen. From what some people have said it’s like we’ve just been spanked 5-0. We could we have been, and maybe should have been 3 up.

Devastating to lose that late Ofcourse. But quite frankly, whilst I agree we do seem to go into our shell far to early arsenal played fairly well and cut off our channels without creating a great deal.

Disappointing to lose, but go and beat West Ham Sunday is huge now

He did about as much he could have tonight with the support he had. When neto was on he at least had someone a couple of times he could combine with. Gabriel had the better of him a few times tbf

RAN was good going forward, but both goals down his side. He looked knackered after an hour (said as much in the matchday thread), but for their first he lost the run and then got on the wrong side of his man.

Fine lines but he’s had a large hand in both goals there.
He didn't lose his man it's just a good ball between him and Saiss. Can't legislate for that and the turn and finish are excellent.

The second is on Sa.

Well that’s enough of this. I am going to watch some telly and think of tomorrow. Night all

I'd say we created better chances than they did tonight, Raul should score, Hwang does score, Hwang has another good chance 2nd half. Raul's header wasn't an easy chance, but one nonetheless. Neto's was going in without the deflection.

Sa made a very good save from Saka just before their 2nd goal, but beyond that, it was sustained pressure without them creating a great deal at all.

Agreed, sometimes they score a good goal, similar to the Leicester goal to be honest, just got to make sure it doesn't become a theme.

Score one of those 3 very presentable chances and the result would have been lauded as a good away performance.
That being said we brought pressure onto ourselves and eventually succumbed to it. Gutted.

On Raul, I just don’t think he allowed us to relieve any pressure at all. White and Gabriel were first to any loose ball forward. He didn’t hold any ball into him or even win any fouls. And even if he did win any aerial balls, I don’t remember them going anywhere we’d need them to.

As for Sa, I’m finding the criticism harsh. What mistakes did he make today for people to say he was “poor”. He missed the one cross but that’s about it.

The winner deflects off Saiss’ foot 2 yards in front of him. Not sure what he’s supposed to do any different. Just bad luck

this is kinda true and I get your point but you can’t let the opposition have 27 shots.

xG (not a huge fan of looking much into single game XG but it’s a theme with us) was 2.6-1.1 I think. We would have been lucky even with a point

I think Sa’s abit unlucky with the 2nd to be honest, comes out gets something in the shot but it’s inside of his hand and it goes in

Sa made some very good saves. The second goal is quite unlucky I think

Whilst you are correct to an extent with Raul, the balls weren’t great up to him, there wasn’t anyone close to him. Wasn’t an easy job. Not saying he couldn’t do better - just it wasn’t a pub performance by any stretch

I don't know if Jim Rosenthal is just happy to be back on TV or if he just wants to suck Arteta's cock off?
