It’s borrowed from molecular chemistry. It wasn’t something that someone pulled out of their ass tbf.
It's borrowed by some fucking clown who wants to label shit.

Of course they pulled it out of their ass as it's Latin meaning is 'on the side of'.

Get in the fucking bin with this made up nonsense.

Good grief. It’s too early for this bullshit.

All of these labels are made up. That’s called a societal contract. Why it riles you so much is anyone’s guess.

I used it to identify myself as not trans. That’s it.

Not if the majority of society think they're bullshit. Then it's just some cunt applying a label.

So don’t identify as it?

Do you get this upset when anyone identifies as anything? You know those things change over time, right?

What are you so mad about?

“Insidious”??

You have the right as an individual to identify or not identify as something. You control your identity, not me nor anyone else.

Just because I use the term to describe myself doesn’t make it an absolute rule for every guy out there who was born male and is interested in ladies.

I always thought CIS was pointless too, to describe something that was universally understood.. why?

When I met my sister in law (trans) I asked about her preferred pronouns and we got chatting about them in general and i asked about CIS and what the point was, her feelings were when she sees somebody identifying as/using CIS she also sees somebody who has an understanding of gender identity and may not be hostile towards them as trans/geneerqueer people. Its a gesture of equality and inclusivity by us, for them.

Since then I have changed my view and think of it as a simple thing to show people they have an ally. It doesn't automatically make anybody transphobic who doesn't want to use CIS but equally they aren't automatically an ally, rather a bystander.

There is bodycam footage from the police killing the shooter. I absolutely don't want to see it, but I think anyone pro-gun should be made to watch it to see the impacts of their views.

Edit. On reflection it would probably do exactly the opposite.

"Mrs. Witherspoon? I have a question about multiplication."

"That's Sergeant Witherspoon, Jimmy."

I always wondered if that was the case, being a chemist. It doesn't make sense linguistically, as Johnny has said.

Words gain their meaning by usage rather than derivation. Just look at yoof (or would the purists prefer "youth") slang words that mean the opposite of what they mean to others.

Not long ago that yule tides were gay rather than men.

Language is always moving and we’re just along for the ride. 😆

I’m a parent of a transgender child. CIS has never been used in our house in all the time since he first came out. Not once. In fact I had never even heard the term until reading this thread. As we have been a family dealing with it for a decade and I have even spent a year on the board of an LGBTQ+ kids charity I wouldn’t say it’s that deeply engrained at all.

5 killed and 6 more injured in a shooting in Louisville Kentucky
