Layman's question: how much difference does it make having say, Tony McCoy on a good horse compared to just a run of the mill, decent but not great jockey?

You could also argue that he's given the best rides too.

Boooommmm big win for me was on at nice prices a few weeks ago, tipped it up on the mix as the best bet of the week.

A lot in my opinion, not sure what the actual stats are but they are out there somewhere. Obviously it's more about the horse but when the jockey can control the pace, the position and all those little factors just like in all top level sports those very small differences make a big difference. AP is pretty famous for getting more out of horses than you would expect too, quite often they will look to have no chance but he manages to get them going and convince the horse to start picking up.
