100 mile ride in support of Ikeme

Yeah, it does end at the round about. Looks about 2 mile long too.

We came down that section as we were going North to South. The start is the start of the climb we did and carries on around the hairpin and up the hill.

That is a southbound segment mate. The hairpin is downhill going south by the looks of it. Maybe the bit you're on about is on a different section of road?

Yeah, got it now.

That's the one. Drop down through the hair pin and then up that section.

Looks pretty relentless, but it always hard to tell the severity on street view.

This is the climb that starts at the 18% signpost that I did on Sunday - http://veloviewer.com/segment/911714

That's certainly a decent one.

It's quite weird really, the first 3 days I hated climbs and then after that I preferred it to riding on the flat or down hills.

Maybe it's just one of things you acquire the taste for. Trouble is that it's relatively flat in the West Midlands so big climbs are the exception rather than the norm.

I've kind of gotten myself in the correct mindset more recently when it comes to climbing. I'm sick of bailing out half way up. I think my problem was trying to maintain a high cadence but I have neither the gearing or fitness to do that. Now though, I get it in my head that I'm going to pedal slow and hard, my heart rate will increase and my legs will start to ache - there's no escaping that. But if I take it relatively slowly and 'easily' then at least I won't burnout before the summit.

The ride I did in Torbay really helped change my approach and attitude towards climbing. It was a totally different hour in the saddle than you could ever imagine doing in Wolves. The views certainly helped take the sting out.

Donated this morning. Good luck! Nice to meet you yesterday. Felt obliged to do it as you bought me a drink and I didn't buy one back!

Ha ha, cheers Vic was a pleasure to meet you too! Donation much appreciated, thank you very much.

Just posted a little update on my JustGiving page, so I'll just copy it into here:

Since setting up this page, 53 days ago, I've been putting the miles in on the saddle in a bid to make sure I'm up to speed come the big day (only 3 weeks away!!!). Here's a quick summary in numbers:

Rides: 38
Miles: 673.5
Elevation gain: 38,357ft
Time: 40hrs 13m 10s
Average speed: 16.8mph

Tomorrow I'm riding in the Wolves 20km ride. Last year's event was the fist ever organised bike ride I took part in. No chance did I think that in 12 months time I'd be preparing for a 100 mile ride!

Cheers again for all the donations so far!

Good stuff mate - I've been very impressed with the constant Strava updates.

Gunned it round the Wolves 20km this morning. Smashed it! Finished in 36m 15s with an average speed of 20.7mph.

For the Strava peeps - https://www.strava.com/activities/1165616088 - set new PRs on 16 of the 19 segments on the route :icon_lol: #pistons

Completely different effort to what will be required for the Velo, but it was good fun and nice to ride in a big group again.
