100 mile ride in support of Ikeme

Looks like you had better weather than 12 months ago.

Just about, yeah!

Top effort, Will. When is your first Tour de France, or are you saving yourself for Tokyo 2020?

Did my last meaningful preparation/training ride for the Velo yesterday. 74ish miles with 4 of the guys I'll be riding the Velo with. We covered a huge chunk of the Velo route, including another crack at the big climb of the day, St Kenelms Pass by the Clent Hills. Steady pace, averaging around 15mph which should see us through the full 100 miles without too much trouble. Had a really good day, legs feel spot on this morning. Just a shame I had to get in the car and trawl through 13 miles of traffic for an hour and quarter!

Oh, and what better way to toast the ride than a beer designed by, and for, cyclists!

So my bike is currently sitting in a bike shop whilst I wait nervously to see if they can clean and regrease the bearings to sort out my noisy front wheel. If not, and it needs a new cartridge, I'm fucked as they can't get the right one in time for the weekend :( :( :(

They have mentioned the possibilty of me borrowing a front wheel - I just hope they come good on that, and have one with the correct axle and mounting for the disc brakes. It could be a problem as they're still not really commonplace on road bike.

Fearing the absolute worst, I might have to buy a whole new wheelset and then pay them extra to get it fitted as I don't the tools and skills to remount the disc brakes and transfer the rear cassette etc. That'd probably cost around £300 if they can even fit me in to the workshop to carry out the work before Sunday!!!

EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, fingers crossed.

Is the field lane/stonehouse lane/jiggins lane bit at the beginning, or end of the velo? & any idea what time you might go through that stage?

Ouch - hope you get it sorted mate. What wonderful timing!!

Right near the end mate, so very hard to predict at what time I'll be passing through there. Aiming for 7 hours in total and my start time is 8:20 so it could be anytime from 2-3pm I guess.

What I can do is post on the forum from the last refueling station, which is just before the St Kenelms Pass climb. Jiggings Lane is about 30 minutes from there.

Good luck with getting the bike fixed, halfords do a pretty good toolset with all the basics in for £50 and have a look at park tool on YouTube, their how to videos are the best, their tools are good as well, but expensive

I think you'll be much faster mate. When I did Ride London I was expecting ~6.5 hours for the 100 miles but did it in less than 5.5 (not including stoppages for accidents etc), possibly because of adrenaline but also because you'll be in some form of peloton which will help with wind resistance and effort required.

Yours sincerely,

Sir Dave Brailsford.

On a plus note, I've just signed up for the Live Photography service. Basically, the professional photos of me cycling around the Velo will be posted directly to my Facebook profile as soon as they are taken, so you can view them before I've even finished. Just keep checking my Facebook profile.

If I wanted images of a sweating, gurning man clad in lycra I'd head in the direction of Pornhub TBH.

So, bearings are screwed :(

Bike shop haven't got any to replace it with :( :(

Spoke to another shop in Wolves and they have bearings that they think will fit and can look at it on Thursday :icon_eek:

God knows what I'll do if they can't sort it on Thursday....
