The only public preseason friendly for Wolves Women is taking place this Sunday at 2pm, at Bucks Head, Telford.

If you're coming along (and you should), tickets in advance are £1 cheaper than on the door, and are available via Telford United's website.

Just chatting to Pad about The Hundred (we're not keen) but one big plus point is double headering men's/women's games.

There's surely scope for us to do this at Molineux at least a couple of times a season. Midday kick off, if you're in for it then beers in the concourse are £2 or whatever, cheap deal on food. Back to normal come 2pm. I'd go.

I'm not going to Telford because it's a pain in the fucking arse.

Well, the final pre-season friendly ended up in a 4-2 defeat to Ipswich, who IIRC are fully professional.

In reality, the biggest difference was the fitness levels of the two teams - Wolves came out of the blocks slowly and ended up 2-0 down very quickly, with some really quite poor passing gifting the ball to Ipswich regularly. Following some changes in positioning, they came much more into it, but got caught on the counter regularly, with some great goalkeeping by Shan Turner keeping the score down.

Overall, not the best advert for Wolves Women as they fell well below their usual performances, but with the heat and the fitness difference, it's probably not that surprising.

Wolves goalscorers were Amber Hughes with a shot that crashed against the post and in, and Amy Dicken with basically the last kick of the game.

The first three games of the season are all away games, with the first game back at Telford being on 4 September.

Me and tilly went along too, the difference in fitness was massive I thought. They were pressing like monsters, and we just didn't have the quality to play through it. Their number 11on the left wing was given so much space, and was heavily involved in the first two.

Two tickets, two burgers and chips, parking and a couple of fantas for less than £20 though, great value for a day out. We'll definitely be going along to a few league games

First game of the season away to Liverpool Feds ended in a 1-1 draw, with our goal scored by Amber Hughes.

On one hand, it's a bit disappointing that we've only drawn to a newly-promoted side; but on the other hand we actually lost to them in the cup last year, so it's definitely an improvement there!

For those interested in such things, Wolves Women haven't followed the men's first team by moving to 4 at the back - it's still firmly 3-5-2, with the wide midfielders being career wingers/forwards playing there rather than full-backs which means that they're very attack-minded, but that can sometimes leave us a bit short at the back. Given we ended up with a young midfielder (Katie Johnson) playing as the right-sided centre-back, we didn't get opened up anywhere near as much as you might expect. That's also not a sign of poor recruitment BTW - it's more a case of players having to miss games due to work commitments etc as well as injuries.

Time to quickly catch up on yesterday's match away to Huddersfield Town, where the team did two things that the men's first team are struggling with, that of keeping a clean sheet and scoring plenty of goals.

A great performance ended in a 5-0 victory with our goals coming from Maz Gauntlett, Amber Hughes, Tammi George, Amy Dicken and an own goal. Two games in isn't exactly the best time to worry about the league table, but that puts us up to third.

Next game is the test of "can they do it on a Tuesday night in Stoke", with the first Staffordshire Derby of the season.

They do have a few games on YouTube occasionally, but Wolves are utterly paranoid about it affecting attendances at a time when people have to go to Telford to see the games live. Highlights do usually turn up on Twitter and Facebook, but they're usually a few days after the game.

They do appear to have "radio" commentary on games via WolvesTV, but my understanding is that it, erm, "perhaps needs some improvement".
