Wolves v Leeds build up

he allows Fabio to come out of the firing line for a while.

That's the most important thing for me. We can make the call on Jose when the season ends, but we all wanted a senior striker to take the pressure off Fabio and that's what we've got.

Is Phillips likely to be out for Leeds on Friday?

He looks fine when you get players close to him. He's not a mobile striker like Raul so when our wingers are stood out on the touchline he has so little support. He's strong and he links well with those around him, and he allows Fabio to come out of the firing line for a while.

A friend of mine described WJ as 'lumbering' yesterday, which I think is not a bad description. We're hardly a creative side at the moment, so he seems to me the better of two poor choices until we can (re)start playing well enough afford the luxury of waiting for Silva's feet to catch up with his 'footballing brain'.

He’s not been great but he won the foot race against David Luiz at least which led to us stealing the win. Fabio would definitely have not won that race, Luiz would have caught up.

I'm happy to go with Jose for now, as someone said it gives Silva a break from the haters. He hasn't really had much goal chance presence apart from winning the penalty against Arsenal but he has been involved in build up to goals a couple of times...his chest down to Neves yesterday for Neto's goal for example....don't think Silva does that in the same position.

They usually have a tendancy to recover just in time when we will play them

Jose is crucial for this game. Leeds will press us high and hard so we need someone who can hold onto the inevitable ball up front. Much as I think Silva has potential this is not his skill set. Having someone who can hold the ball up and bring Adama and Neto into play is absolutely vital.

Any chance someone could tell him to move around occasionally between now and Friday?

He plays like a Subbuteo man.

I'm tempted to sack him off, on current showings he won't be our player in three months (you'd struggle to justify paying £2m for him let alone £22m), we may as well give Fabio those minutes as we have nothing to play for. It's certainly a case of if there's no swift improvement then it's completely pointless. He hasn't improved us at all.

Without him we wouldn't have won against Arsenal or Saints - he was integral to the pen in the 1st and the winner yesterday, so there is that.

Happy for someone to point out similar from Fabio in the most recent games.

This is an epic battle of who can write off Fabio or WJ in the biggest and quickest way.

An epic watch for sure. Tredman has the benefit of time and persistence over how much he hates Fabio, where as DW has fought back with the little time he has had so far to include hilarious nicknames such as Willian Joke.

I can't wait to see the conclusion.

Actually they both need to do better in the short term. One to justify the initial outlay on potential, the other to make a case for signing him. I do agree that the hold up play and strength has brought us some positives from Willian Jose. I can also see that Fabio Silva has potential and lacks the readiness for the first team at the moment. I am inclined to give WJ a few more chances yet though. I would like Vitinha for Moutinho but I do not think that will happen , so its the same starting 11 for me.

I think that, if we're trying to do what's best for Fabio (as he's our player and an important club project) then the best thing is Willian starting most games and Fabio coming off the bench. That's balanced development for me, flogging the lad to death won't help anyone.

I’m not entirely sure what WJ has done wrong?

Won the penalty that got us back into it at Arsenal and looked ok in the first couple of games.

Granted, he was awful yesterday but so were a few others - especially in the first half.

Remember, he is leading the line in a team that doesn’t create chances. Traore has been utter rubbish until half time yesterday and Neto has been trying too hard to do everything on his own.

That, coupled, with coming over to a new country during a pandemic can’t be the easiest of starts.

Im not making excuses for him (he was crap yesterday) but I seem to remember Raul having a similar start when he arrived.

I honestly think he’ll be ok.

He's started 6 league games so far. We're not in Victorian workhouse territory just yet...

The way we have been playing recently it wouldn't matter if we did have Harry Kane if all we supported him with was Neto wide left, Adama wide right and the rest of the team on or about the half way line.

I thought WJ looked much better linking play in the second half yesterday and whilst it is only a small sample I'm hoping he will look much better if we continue to play that way and actually have players within areas that they can pass it to each other.

He seems a bit....lazy / immobile I guess. Doesn't come deep to get the ball and is happy to not be involved. Silva, for all his faults, will try to win possession back or try to find a way to get involved in the game. To me, it looks like WJ is happy to not be involved if we don't have the ball.

I think that once Jose gets a goal , his confidence will surge and the goals will flow. Im more confident with him on the pitch than Silva.

If I was on loan somewhere, and wanted a permanent deal, I’d be putting myself about and fighting for everything. Jose’s body language and application suggest to me that he does not have his heart set on a contract with Wolves.

Hey! I don't hate anyone (well apart from one guy I worked with 20 years ago, he was an utter cunt).

I think Fabio will probably be a good player, he just doesn't haven't the physical attributes to play now. Being outpaced by JWP is definitely not a good look - I reckon even i might give him a go in a race.
