Wolves History Thread

Molineux looking unloved here, I did love the old stadium though, you could still feel the majesty of the place even in those final years, the glory days a mere vestige - a warm memory whilst gazing at the mighty South Bank from Molineux Alley, the empty North Bank and Waterloo Road stands, but proud we were nonetheless and still are. I often look at the new North Bank and imagine showing a 16 year old me in the 80s what it would become. I would have pissed me pants! Regardless of what happens this season (24/25), memories will be made, pain will be felt and hearts will be broken - and mended. The Gold and Black army will march on.

No, we only wore the three leaping wolves for the first few games of the season before it was replaced with the first wolf head badge kit.

Does anyone know why the wolf head badge kit wasn't worn at the start of the 1979-80 season?
A strange one. The wolfhead was on official WWFC documents, letterheads, etc at that time and I think the leaping wolfs were ditched after the Coventry home game defeat (0-3) in November '79. As to why it wasn't on the shirts at the start, I'm afraid that I can't find the answer to that.

From memory (and it is 45 years ago) I think there was a delay from Umbro in having the kit ready for the start of the season (can't remember why).

By the way it's a great shirt (the 79/80 Wolfhead - worn in the 1980 League Cup Final win) - one of the club's best ever IMO.

I wasn't there, but do have a recollection of listening to the commentary on Sport on 2.

In that case probably quite a few of us were in that photo, though tbh I have zero recollection of where I stood in the ground that evening.
The QF against Grimsby I was in the South Bank - in the away end!
It was that packed my mate got crushed and fainted and spent the second half under the South Bank so I remember more or less exactly where I was stood.
