Wolves History Thread

24 years ago today:

1) Ludo injuring himself going for a header he had little hope of winning, the loon. Kept doing that

2) Where the hell has NEIL COX pulled that finish from

3) Tony Dinning was absolutely brilliant in the second half of this one and a quality finish too. Looked like we had a serious player at that point. And then we er, didn't

Didn't he strop because he didn't like Jones bringing players in to compete for his place?

Yeah, think he just saw the writing on the wall. It took DJ a while to drop Robinson for Rae but it was obviously going to happen at some point, and Cameron was clearly going to replace Dinning.

His form tailed off after Christmas in 2000/01 anyway, he went from looking like one of the best midfielders in the division to bang average.

What a SHIT goal to concede.

Not sure why Cookie took the penalty when Thommo was on the pitch. I mean Thommo did miss one the week before against Stoke but we swapped it back again not long after.

Team: Stowell; Simkin, Mountfield, Shirtliff, Venus; Thompson, Cook, J Kelly (Regis 76), Dennison (Keen 57); D Kelly, Bull. Unused sub: Jones.

But mainly posted to point out that Graham Turner was Hoddle before Hoddle was a thing. Who knew.

Who is J Kelly? Never heard of him before.
Jimmy "Killer" Kelly

To our credit, unlike Albion with Lee Hughes, we stopped playing him as soon as he was charged. Basically never came near the club again.

Thought he’d played more game for us than that.

I was only 6 then, he was the only name I didn't recognise.

Yeah, I would have gone 20 games or so if you'd asked me half an hour ago.

Though we were both part of the mega cool reserve games club so that's probably what's fooled us.

Terrible, terrible challenge by Dennis Pearce for their penalty. Hauled off at HT and never played for us again.

Pretty sure our equalising goal is offside, a foul and handball, in that order.

Team: Stowell; Richards, Atkins, Venus; Smith, Osborn, Van der Laan (Roberts 82), Emblen (Dowe 77), Pearce (Dennison 45); Goodman, Bull.

With Hillsborough 11 months away, there's a lot positive and negative to take out of this photo

This brings back memories for me - if it’s the game I’m thinking of, I was there as a 15 year old and I think we won the old 4th division title that day?

The players went in and the fans were singing “bring out the champions”……ten minutes later Bully, Thommo etc were on the fans shoulders, amid a pitch invasion, being carried round the ground……no trouble, great day.

I think that was the day, feel free to correct me?

You’ll certainly never see those scenes again, that’s for sure.

Last day of the season, a 2-0 win, Robbie Dennison and Phil Robinson.

Team: Kendall, Bellamy, Thompson, Streete, Robertson, Robinson (Chard 82), Holmes, Downing (Vaughan 82), Bull, Mutch, Dennison.

But we'd already sealed the title the previous week at home to Hartlepool. Bully here with the trophy at Molineux.

Amazing, thanks.

Thought that was the day, what fantastic memories.

That was a fabulous team we had back then. I remember watching them train behind the North Bank in the car park - all happy to chat to fans afterwards, take photos etc. No signs of security, even.

I sort of miss those days, when I see photos like these.

Really appreciate them being shared, thanks.
