Didn't he go on to open an Italian restaurant??? 😂

Wonder what the % split between basic salary and scoring bonus was in his early days

Probably purchased his first house off the scoring bonus pay from the first 2 and a bit seasons

Definitely different times. Around 93ish or so when we had the Billy Wright built, his family were in one of the boxes and if he scored at home he'd make a "sticking cash down the shorts waistband" signal to them. Used to bet packets on him being first scorer.

Early 90s he used to get a new deal pretty much every year as we were terrified of losing him.

He did indeed.

When I went the first course was terrible but the second....

Didn't they have cod and chips on the menu but the cod was in Peroni batter?

Seem to remember that when he was married to Julie Dace her father managed his affairs I think?

I thought that he acted as his agent too. Read the article and didn't want to question his version of having an agent.

Was he the guy who had a factory in Brereton (the breakaway part of Rugeley). If it is, then yes he acted as his kind of financial advisor

Bully was reported to be on 6k a week in the early 90s, which was a good PL wage. It's why the money element wasn't a driver in him wanting to leave.
Again, different times. Imagine a Championship club now signing players who'd appeared for England inside the last couple of years and were still theoretically in their prime (Thomas, Daley) or a first team player off the reigning Premier League champions (Atkins).

We were paying bigger than a lot of PL clubs across the board as the main financial factor was still the owner's wealth rather than TV money.

David Kelly earned a lot more when he moved to us than he would have if he stayed at Newcastle. Same with Kevin Keen and West Ham.

I think he was behind the 306 branded leisurewear/sportswear. I dealt with him for a while many, many years ago and he advised Bully to not sign my original Italia 90 shirt as there was money to be made in doing so via other avenues. Cock.

I'm sure I heard bully say on a podcast (might have been quickly Kevin) that Coventry were offering bully less than we were paying him.

My first season ticket was in there…£95

Always stood in more or less the same spot, could chain smoke for 90 minutes and the toilets were better than the Steve Bull are now. The “Bovril” was not too hot, not too cold and not too tasty…unless you like the taste of salt.

I don’t think there is a better way to watch football than an old style terrace.
