Wolves History Thread

One of the worst Wolves haircuts I've ever seen

Fu
Seen Bully miss loads of one on ones. And loads of other different types of chance.

He was never as clinical as people like to remember. He just didn't give a shit if he missed, he'd keep going plus for at least 80% of his time here, our entire attacking plan was to give him as many opportunities as possible, nothing else mattered.
Funny how you never remember the misses.

Too right, Bully would have 20 shots/headers ti score 1 goal, and not give a flying fuck.

Not 100% sure I agree about the clinical part. He most certainly missed tons of 1 v 1's in the early part of his career. I distinctly remember the Div 4 game v Hartlepool when we won but he missed at least four 1v1's. I remember saying that if this guy can start taking his opportunities, we have something on our hands. As we know, 50 goals per season for two seasons running then showed he became far more clinical.

He became even more clinical as we progressed up the leagues as well and didn't miss a lot after that. I do agree that he didn't give a shit if he missed and as a striker you need that trait. Understand what you are saying but I think he was a little more clinical than you may be giving him credit for.

PS. JR... now he was clinical. Don't think I ever saw him miss a 1v1.

So

Torino - Shit Food
Coventry - Shit money
Newcastle - Shit for the family life
Celtic - Shit weather

Sunglasses Ron definitely wanted him in his early days at Villa.

Don't think we accepted the Torino bid (though £1.75m was huge then), Taylor definitely did accept the Coventry bid in 1995 and I think Bully just gambled that he'd outlast him.

From 1990 or so he was always on way more than any other player here.

Interesting he never had an agent, when did they become a major thing?

The Coventry one had the E&S poll didn't it. 98% said they didn't want him to leave or something daft like that

(Quirk was one of the 2%...pass it on)

Mid 90s probably.

He didn't need one while he was a Wolves player, his status did all the negotiating for him.

He would have had someone doing his boot deals etc for him.

I wonder how much he was on? Say 15k a week during the Hayward years?

Doubt he hit £10k a week until say 96 or so and then he was just signing short extensions after that.

Wages only really went crazy in the 2000s and beyond, when United were literally Champions League holders and easily the richest club in England in 1999/2000 they were hemming and hawing about paying Roy Keane £50k a week.

That article reckons around that time that Beckham - the most marketable player in Europe - wasn't even on £25k a week.
