Wolves Academy Thread

Just seen Ismail's tackle again - I struggle to see how anyone can think that was anything but a red card offence.

Yeah its a red card for me too..way too reckless, late and with that speed..

Cranston was very good but I was so impressed with Tank - carry on like that and he'll make the first team squad next season.

I know it's difficult to tell based on one reserve came, but could he be a genuine contender for a first team slot next year?

Best performance I've seen from him. On that performance definitely, yes, but overall, no.

Pretty impressed with the whole team to be honest. Played well throughout. Importantly, played as a team too.

Excellent stuff.

Any chance of highlights somewhere for those that missed this match? sounds like a good game

Would've been nice to see us keep 11 players on the pitch so we could see a bit more of Wolves going forwards, think Winnall would've just sat in between midfield and attack trying to make things happen but he often had to drop too deep to help out the midfield and thus we were often restricted to a long ball to an isolated McAlinden. He held it up quite well at times though to be to fair to him, against a less experienced player he might well have been able to make something for himself but Smalling generally had him covered.

Promising stuff though, happier watching that than the first team.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching an effort filled wolves team (for a change from the 1st XI)

League 1 football could see a few of those lads coming through.

I'd like that, I think. If it was a straight choice between staying up with our current squad or League 1, a clear out and 4 or 5 of our youth players getting first team game time I'd choose League 1.

We shouldn't need League One for that. In fact we don't. There are NO positives to playing in the third tier, not even binning off Saunders.

No there isn't but we are heading there so its time to roll out the positives or else we are slitting our wrists again

Play them all against Bristol on Saturday for me.

True enough. I haven't accepted it just yet though. The league is crap enough that we might survive despite ourselves.

For those that saw the game last night; McAlinden - worth a place in the first team squad any time soon? Better, worse, different to Cassidy?

I did say if. Hypothetical situation.

Honestly though, I think I'd enjoy watching a Wolves team made up of academy players in any division. The current crop of arseholes in our first team do very little for me.

I'd certainly rather watch Jordan Cranston play left back than the guy from Liverpool.

After the sending off he was on his own up top against Smalling who dealt with him easily. Not the best game to judge him on. Never stopped running though and looked dangerous whenever he was allowed a yard of space.

Nobody wants League 1 football but it's becoming more of a reality with every game, if it does become a reality then that would give the Club an ideal opportunity to nurture a Team of made up of our own players for the first time in most members of this Forums lives.

It was a defensive display and McAlinden had very little to do. He did miss the one good chance he had.

My personal opinion is that we've only seen McAlinden play against players of his own age group, where Cassidy has played against men, so at the moment I'd stick with Cassidy. McAlinden needs to go out on loan to League 1 next season, unless we are in League 1.

The last time our club got overblown with non-caring tossers and we binned them all off we did ok out of the youth for a while; Murray, Hennessey, Jones, Clyde, Gobern, Little, O'Connor, Gleeson, Davies *spit*, Clarke *double spit* all chipped in during 2006/7 and it was refreshing after years of watching Paul Ince point and bollock for 90 minutes. I actually thought the Little/Gobern right hand side would be there for years, but Lewis is made of paper and we just ended up signing a better right back than Little after dear old Rohan destroyed his confidence inside 45 minutes. Don't ever ask Kenny about that game.

It would be impossible to really appraise McAlinden last night - he was on his own up front against Smalling and their other CH, so got little change.

Also, it was a real team effort, so again difficult to single people out, but Cranston reminded me a bit of Assou-Ekoto (?), Price looked strong defensively but also comfortable going forward, Tank and Ihiekwe (?) were an impenetrable barrier, and the Swedish lad really put himself about. In the 10 minutes he was on, Zeli gave Buttner a real going over.

The above would certainly not disgrace themselves in League 1, but none probably ready for where we are right now.

Thanks for the reminder something i often need with past Wolves teams.
