Wolves Academy Thread

I think you'll find we have done in a lot of these reserve games and in-house friendlies.
McAlinden and Clarke have played plenty of times together this season.

McAlinden has played out wide hasn't he? Like he did v Northampton in the Cup

Kevin Thelwell told the parliament specifically that we won't play 4-4-2 at any level.

I agree in first-team and under 21's we haven't had a 4-4-2 but I've seen a lot of friendlies and training ground matches where KJ will put out a 4-4-2. It doesn't mean a lot, just gives the players chances to play in their best positions to stake a claim for a proper first-team place.

With either McAlinden on the left and Clarke up front or McAlinden up front and Clarke behind the striker.

There's a slight hole in that argument.

I assume one of Sagbo or the other bloke will be playing slightly deeper in keeping with our usual formation

Agudelo in the #10 role behind Sagbo, I'd guess.

Has Tim Nash asked Kenny Jackett why Jacobs hasn't figured in the number 10 role, or is that a bit to highbrow for his readers?

It doesn't seem so (asked Jackett).

Jacobs played well in the number 10 role last season, why has he not been tried there this season?

Timbo: I think it's a close call with a lot of positions Craig. Jacobs has been unlucky in that Edwards has played well and scored goals so I don't think he could be dropped and I can't see how you can play both in the current system. However I think he will get his chance because he's got so much to offer.

Edwards has been dropped/left out/rested/whatever, he didn't start any of the Charlton, Reading or Huddersfield games. Unfortunately neither did Jacobs.

Of course this leads to a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy where you conclude because we didn't win any of those games, Edwards should always be starting. He should if he plays like he did vs Wigan to be fair, but generally Jacobs offers more.

Yes Craig that was a surprise to me too, especially when Saville was selected in that position and I'm not sure it worked. For me he's be second to Edwards in that role, but then he had to try Sagbo there. The only concern may be his size in what is a very physical league.

Just the one?

GFFH there will be training ground matches where we match up 4-4-2 because that's what the opposition play. The friendlies are if there are other managers/ scouts looking for players to do a certain job in a certain position and want to assess the player. That's why you won't see the U21's or first team play the system as they want continuity throughout.

Wolves U18s 4 Liverpool U18s 0

Connor Ronan 2 & Bright Enokabhare 2

Ken seems to be earmarking Iorfa as the next youngster to get into the squad. He was in the 20 man squad for the Wigan game. He's alluded to Ricketts struggling - he was fit apparently last week, just not selected - and right back is a definite weak area if he can't get back to his best, so we may see Iorfa fairly soon. I was impressed when I watched him vs Man Utd for the reserves last season.
