Wolves Academy Thread

Tim Flowers left Kidderminster Harriers on Friday, for a job at an unnamed league club. He was first team coach at Kiddy. Our academy year has now ended I believe, and is it possible that Tim Flowers will be named head of our academy on Monday.

I read somewhere that he's expected to join Stuart Pearce at Forest.

Would it not be a strange move to go from a first team coach to head of academy? Would like to see this given to a progressive thinker rather than just to an ex-pro.

And a bang average one at that. It doesn't seem to fit the Thelwell/ Jackett mould.

It'd be an absolute no-brainer to get on the phone right away and see how they would feel about improving the Wolves Academy coaching setup. Some pretty good players have come through their academy.

Seems harsh to judge them on results when they have so many U21s playing for the first team...which in turn depletes the U18s.

You have to remember with Southampton that they have a huge catchment area with little to no competiton. Pompey never bothered with youth when they were in the PL and Bournemouth are small fry.

So do we though - once you start including our Shropshire and Staffordshire catchment area on top of Wolverhampton and the immediately surrounding area. We may be competing with WBA and the Brummie clubs across the Black Country and the West Mids region, but the sheer size of the population base is much bigger than south Hampshire.

We're up against Villa, both Manchester clubs and Merseyside too (I think) as they have Cat1 academies too so our competition is much tougher.

London is closer to Southampton than we are to either Manchester or Liverpool.

Doesn't having a category 1 academy make catchment areas pretty irrelevant by the time the kids actually got to academy age? I thought category 1 status allowed a global recruitment so even though you can get a head start scouting the local youngster's teams and find these lads out by the time they're old enough to actually join an academy it doesn't matter where they're from if a category 1 academy comes calling, they're fair game for everyone.

Not sure globally, however it gives us permission to talk to players of non cat1 clubs I believe with pretty much free will.

Wolves U21s & U18s @Comptonstars · 11m
Wolves sign 19 year old Barcelona Midfielder Jordi Ortega he will join our U21s

Jordi will be training with the 1st team during Pre-season and will more than likely be heading to Ireland on the pre-season tour

Finding some very decent young players by the look of things! Did the younger team coach sacking Comptonstars talk about ever happen by the way?
