Wolves Academy Thread

Watched a fair bit of this game. Looked completely disorganised in terms of producing any penetrative play. We have some talented players but it looks like there's been too many changes to the line-up. There appeared to be poor understanding and linkages across the pitch leading to some examples IMHO as follows: Barnett: terrible, lots of skill but no focus on what he is supposed to do, gave the ball away endlessly and no goal threat. Marques: Oh dear. I have seen this so often. Does not mark tightly and is not not aggressive enough to marshall a defence. Fraser: Where was his service and support? No goal threat. Hodge: Aimless wandering around and passing. No goal threat. Roberts: Running in straight lines and always falling over. No goal threat. Lembikisa: Very good but no offensive contribution.
Sorry but these lads all have the talent to be pro footballers. Unfortunately, and it's the same problem in the first team, the application is poor apart from individual spurts. Where's the drive and the determination to work as a team and win gone?

I think Collins is toast in the summer. Since he’s gone back into his main role the team have got worse.

I don't think it's really a particularly good squad, a lot of those players you mention are either miles off being ready or will never make it as a senior player in the top two tiers in this country.

Only Lembikisa I would say. Had hopes for Marques but he doesn’t seem to have progressed.

Those that are currently available I would agree with you.

Only Fraser, Lembikissa, Roberts and Pond look like they could go on to do good things but they're all very young. Barnett is really raw and I like Griffiths but he's made of biscuits.

Any decent U21 who will be considered for the first team in the immidiate future is out on loan (Cundle, Lonwijk, Campbell).

Like the first team though the U21's lack the link between midfield and forward. Wide men are too wide and midfielders too deep. I don't know who's doing the analysis at the club but they need fucking off.

Marques looks like he's regressed, he used to be decent.
Couple of things there:

1) Bad loans, one was just a shit call to send him to Belenenses and go unused for months, then was out injured for long enough for Forest Green to want to send him back, plus not fit to sign for anyone else, and have him chucked back into Academy football. Two years in a row that's happened

2) For ages we groomed him to be the next Coady. We do not play that system any more and so loads of his development was in a role that doesn't exist

Fair comment. Tried to focus on the 'names' that get talked up. In the cold light of day you are spot on. What's that quote? Something like 97% of PL Academy players never make even one PL first team game. And, I guess its 99% don't make ten games.

He's showed that he can be a better defender than he is now and was ahead of lonwijk. He's now comfortably behind and for sure the reasons you highlighted haven't helped at all.

He's 21 next Jan, I can't imagine he has a future here unless he improves somewhat.
