Wolves Academy Thread

So what? How many footballers kids actually make it as good footballers? Haaland and..? The fact that academies are overrun with Brooklyn Beckhams is a clear sign that the people’s game is becoming something else.

Bit harsh to say he's only got a place because of his dad when no one has seen him play
True, but it's a massive coincidence all these players have their kids in the academies don't you think?

Tom Ince
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Bradley Wright-Phillips
Frank Lampard
Jamie Redknapp
Alex Bruce
DWs favourite Darren Ferguson
Jordi Cruyff
Kaspar Schmicheal
All had decent careers out of it

10 in the whole of world football seems a particularly low number. Statistically insignificant.

There are plenty tbf, Kasper Schmeichel is a pretty good example. He looked RUBBISH when he first started out and if he didn't have that surname there's probably little chance he'd have been signed and retained by Man City, even in their pre-money days. But he evidently became a very good keeper and a Premier League winner. A certain Paolo Maldini didn't do too badly following in the footsteps of his old man.

Happens in every walk of life, it shouldn't but it does.

Even I feel weird seeing BWP in the same list as Schmeichel and Lampard.

That’s just off the top of my head, I’m nowhere near as knowledgable as others on here re football

Talking about SWP, many examples of grandson making it? His son, Ian Wright's grandkid, is playing at Stoke if anyone wants to feel old, D'Margio Wright-Phillips. No idea if he's much good though. Daniel Maldini another of course.

Encouraging win for the U21s especially with some real youngsters doing well like our goalscorer, Fraser Harper. Apparently, he was in the England U15 squad a few years back.

Id guess that there are more pros who are brothers, son's, nephews of people who've been in professional sport than compared to the general population.

According to my records these are the Academy players out of contract at the end of this season (frequently though the club have options exercised that they don't tell us about). I've bolded the ones I think we'll keep:

Taylor Perry
Jack Scott
Louie Moulden
Josh Esen
Christian Marques
Harvey Griffiths
Lee Harkin

Aaron Keto-Diyawa
Palmi Arinbjornsson
Joe O'Shaughnessy
Lewis Richards
Owen Hesketh

Michael Agboola
Justin Hubner
Jack Hodnett
Dylan Scicluna
Andreas Sondergaard
Dongda He
Luke Matheson
Ty Barnett
Ackeme Francis-Burrell
Tyler Roberts
Nathan Fraser

Filozofe Mabate
Ethan McLeod
Temple Ojinnaka
Dexter Lembikisa
Kam Kandola

I think we'll keep Hubner and one of Scott/ Hodnett/ Matheson.

Not sure on the rest. A bit like the first team we're imbalanced in the youth teams due to the success of Bueno. We have 4 RB's and no left backs.

Hubner is far too agricultural to ever have a future here tbh.

Matheson might get another year or two simply as we paid for him.

I think we'll release Perry. Unlikely to make it and we're holding him back here. Same with Richards.

I have hope for Lonwjik and Marques to have higher quality loans next year and then be ready to compete in the first team.
