Wolves Academy Thread

The goals themselves weren't difficult finishes: there were two shots that were miles wide. Sorry, I'm assuming you didn't see it - he lost a lot of physical challenges and you simply have to defer judgement until he is older and stronger. But scoring twice can't do him anything but good.
TBF Silva had to be 'strong' and committed to take his second. He put John under pressure and took the ball from him before going on to put the ball past the keeper.

I've seen people compare him to Robbie Keane at similar stages.

1) Keano looked like a spindly wee schoolkid. A talented one all the same but he had so much development to do, let's not rose tint it
2) We were shit, so he looked mega exciting
3) We were a level down
4) We paid exactly £0 for him, so no pressure

Apart from that, aye, the same.

Give the boy a fair go.

I like Corbeanu, think he's going to be a good player. At 6'2" he's at least a threat in the box!

I remember reading a report on Kane early in his career (I think after his Orient loan) where the scout said he wasn't big enough, strong enough or quick enough to be anything above a Championship level striker.

Totally different sports but if an NFL team signed a young rookie like Fabio they'd give him a red shirt season (fake injury) and he'd have a year in the gym, thus taking him out of the firing line. Obviously doesn't work in football, but think it would help him.

I understand the expectation, but I feel for him, as no matter what anybody says he's never going to escape that price tag

think he took both opportunities well tonight. Particularly impressed with the 2nd goal.

Have to say it’s surprising to see Matheson not getting more time on the pitch for the 21’s. You’d think playing Hoever in at RCB and then Matheson at RWB ahead of Burr would be the way forward (we all know what Burr can offer).

Rubbish defending, but Fabio took that second goal really well. Composed. Pleased he's off the mark!

Not sure what Hoever was thinking for the penalty, body checking someone in the box when you're nowhere near the is never likely to end well.

From today’s athletic article

When asked by The Athletic about that fee, Silva gives a mature reply that belies his 18 years.

“What Wolves paid for me is not important,” he says after his Doncaster double salvo. “For the social media it’s important…but for me the most important (thing) is to do my job well, learn, work hard. If you think of this, you don’t put your football into practice. These things are for social media…not for me.”

As Wolves’ Under-21s boss James Collins says after the match, Silva’s professional approach to the game was impressive.

“We all know he’s got talent,” Collins says. “I’ve not seen a lot of him but they’ve paid a lot of money for a player from there, you know he’s going to have talent. But you always wonder when they drop down to this level, do they really want to do it? You should see him in the dressing room, he’s with the boys, happy, he’s enjoyed scoring goals.

“I was really impressed with how enthusiastic he was to play in this game. He attitude in training on Monday was magnificent. He was just as enthusiastic about the defending as he was about the attacking…when you see our first-team centre forward (Raul Jimenez) he’s very much the same. And then he could take his chances, his finishes were excellent.

“I just thought the way he showed intelligence with the work around the defending…Theo (Corbeanu, Silva’s strike partner on the night) has got a lot of work to do on his defending, he knows that, and it normally comes from us on the sidelines. Watching how Fabio spoke to him and tried to help him, that was excellent and a great sign for the football club.

“I’m delighted for him — he’s off and running — and for our boys to learn off and play with a player like that.”

Well it kind of is important if you're the accountant isn't it?

Joking aside it is important and to say its not is very nieve and silly. I get his sentiment and something along the lines of 'I can't control the fee that's been paid I need to concentrate on my football' would have been much better.
