When asked by The Athletic about that fee, Silva gives a mature reply that belies his 18 years.
“What Wolves paid for me is not important,” he says after his Doncaster double salvo. “For the social media it’s important…but for me the most important (thing) is to do my job well, learn, work hard. If you think of this, you don’t put your football into practice. These things are for social media…not for me.”
As Wolves’ Under-21s boss James Collins says after the match, Silva’s professional approach to the game was impressive.
“We all know he’s got talent,” Collins says. “I’ve not seen a lot of him but they’ve paid a lot of money for a player from there, you know he’s going to have talent. But you always wonder when they drop down to this level, do they really want to do it? You should see him in the dressing room, he’s with the boys, happy, he’s enjoyed scoring goals.
“I was really impressed with how enthusiastic he was to play in this game. He attitude in training on Monday was magnificent. He was just as enthusiastic about the defending as he was about the attacking…when you see our first-team centre forward (Raul Jimenez) he’s very much the same. And then he could take his chances, his finishes were excellent.
“I just thought the way he showed intelligence with the work around the defending…Theo (Corbeanu, Silva’s strike partner on the night) has got a lot of work to do on his defending, he knows that, and it normally comes from us on the sidelines. Watching how Fabio spoke to him and tried to help him, that was excellent and a great sign for the football club.
“I’m delighted for him — he’s off and running — and for our boys to learn off and play with a player like that.”
