Wolves Academy Thread

beat Man Utd 1-0 with a goal in the 86th minute scored by Sam Whittall

Get in there! Great to see the U21's doing so well. I look forward to seeing a few of them in the first team next season.

Their success this year seems to be the only bright spot.

Even if we stay up it would be interesting to hear from someone who has seen them give an opinion on how many can step up to the next level. Given that we will probably have a bloodbath as we try to offload some of the non performing high earners it will help if we can bring through some home grown (& probably cheaper) talent from this team for next year.

I'll be going to the game against Arsenal next week, hopefully get to see Evans playing as he sounds pretty decent

decent mate, couple of thoughts. I find the background/border colour is a tad too distracting. Also I would like to see a lot more depth! what is it about those players that you like?

Do you go to a lot of games for the u21s then? I would be interested for some decent analysis of the players, watching one player for an entire half, hard to do rather than watching the ball but can be a great insight (also a useful tool for any of the forum coaches, I was challenged to do it and keep working on it by the lad that was in charge of the course I did)

Just testing the water so far with blogging, I go to all home U21 games and a few away games and some U18s games

Any players in particular you want to know about?

Evans please. Is he ready for the first team in the Championship?

Also, what sort of midfielder is he? Good with the ball, passer, dribbler, good shot on him, good movement into the box, etc?

A good midfielder should be all of those!

Well, it depends. I'd say Claude Makelele was a good midfielder, indeed a world great of this century, but you'd never flag up his dribbling, shot or movement into the box.

I really like the look of Robbie Parry - he looks a really good quality winger. I haven't seen Evans yet but I like the reports.

I suppose I'm just looking forward to the likes of Hunt and Edwards doing one. I've had enough of technically bereft bellends like that. It shouldn't be difficult for a professional footballer to control and pass a ball but neither of them can do it.

Yeh, fair and very true point.

Like you, I'm just fed up of the dross that's been filling our midfield for far too long now.

Technical ability and movement should be gimme's in a modern day footballer. I think the kids have some elements of both, which is one reason I'm really worried about the prospect of Saunders staying, that he'd quickly drum it out of them in favour of kicking and running...

Lee Evans is a tall 2 footed central midfielder but more offensive than defensive and likes to arrive late in the box, I would say his game is similar to Steven Gerrard but not as dynamic

Could he start in the Championship? Not yet but should be given a chance off the bench I expect him to be training with the 1st team from the summer with a chance for starting in League 1

RE Parry he's still very young and plays for our U18s primiarlly, would expect him to kick on in the U21s next season but not 1st team just yet

v Arsenal to finish off the U21 season

U-21 squad. Cotman, Whittall, Ebanks-Landell, Ihiekwe, Reckord, Ismail, Evans, Price, Forde. SUBS: Flatt, Tank, Jakobsson, Cranston, Winnall

Ha! Never noticed that. I just c&p it from twitter

I know it's only Arsenal Kenny but don't you think giving them a 2 man advantage from the off is a bit too cocky?
