Well that was a defensive horror show of 2003 proportions

Defensively awful today. Its never a disgrace to lose to a big six but we made them look a lot better than they are. Coady had a shocker. I mean Roger Johnson levels of shocker.

Bennett and Boly straight back in.

Vallejo can go on holiday with Miranda

Saiss into midfield and Neves drops to the bench

Coady is looking rubbish defensively

Very, very poor defensive performance. Following on from Everton game - we just look so open.

I think from this point whatever we are prioritising - Doherty has to be the main man (which I think was always the case). I don't think Adama individually was that poor but against good opposition him at right wing back in this league just isn't really an option. Teams will always target it.

Vallejo struggled big time defensively, and not helped by the other two performing terribly. He will play in the europa league up until christmas I think, he needs to be given time, and to not be thrown in in games where we play like that.

I think our midfield looked better in the shape when we had the three forwards on. They had to play higher, and be more positive in possession. Neves was noticably better second half I thought alongside Joao, but he needs to play his way back into form for sure.

Glad for Cutrone, I thikn he will get plenty of goals. He works so hard. And with him, Raul and Diogo (and later on MGW) the combinations through the middle of the pitch were at times quite good.

we have a big few games coming up, we really do need a minimum of 4 points from the next two league games, amongst the Thursday games. Tough challenge, which I think most expected, but up to the staff and players to overcome that. Plenty to learn, that is for sure.

Cutrone looked ok, Moutinho is our only decent midfield player, Doc looked ok when he came on. Not one other player deserves a rating above 3. Neves and Donk get a 1, Coady and Vallejo I'd give negative marks if it were possible. Jota and Raul look like someone has body snatched them.

Rui had a shocker for the first, Coady beyond terrible for two of their goals. First half we had nothing other than Traore to create, and everyone was miles away from Jota or Raul so they were completely ineffective. Donk was also terrible defensively and going forwards.

Chelsea eased right off at 4-0 and we got a couple, but that shouldn’t disguise just how bad this was defensively, and offensively.

Anyone calling for Nuno to go however is still a moron though.

Curtone and Doherty played well but out midfield and defence let us down. In addition to how much we need Boly and Bennett at the back, I think we have missed Doherty this season. Let's hope he and Cutrone can kick on and that the other regulars like Raul, Jota, Neves, Rui, etc., can somehow get their mojo back. Our next two PL games against Crystal Palace and Watford now become crucial. If we cannot regain some momentum and points against these two teams, then we really are in deep trouble.

Worst game ever for us from coady. Abraham made him look like paul mcshane. I didnt think jesus was that bad, yes he made positioning and passing mistakes but thats to be expected. He won nearly all individual aerial challenges, tackles, etc. Donk and neves anonymous. Jota terrible yet again. Traore was our best player first half, probably doherty second half

We have played four of the top 8 currently.
Now is not the time to panic for me. Lose 5 2 at home to palace and its a different story.

Paying the price for a complacent window now. We've only got two central defenders that are good enough for a top half side, and Moutinho is the only midfielder that's earning his money at the moment, and the front two just aren't clicking. It's been a very disappointing start, we haven't played anywhere near enough football. We really miss a fit and firing Doc, his presence makes us play much better combination play.

It worries me because our style of play last year gained us a disproportionate amount of points against the bigger teams. Means we need to put lesser teams to the sword

How fucking bad was Conor Coady today? Fuck me.

Not sure where I’ll start but I’ll say we are in real trouble.

For the match day thread... just read through while I walk home. Not sure where the “we haven’t been that bad” comes from. We were great for the first 10 mins. We finally started a game where we took the game to the opposition, and looked like we were trying to score with Traore up the pitch. After 10 mins we reverted back to the norm. Park the bus in our third and then lump it forward hoping Raul and Jota will take on 5 on their own. No effort to hold the ball up and get players up the pitch. Had the same result, they lost the Ball and it came straight back.

The first goal is a freak goal, but if we constantly give teams a free pass into our third then freak goals can happen. Vallejo is woeful, we’ve somehow managed to sign a player who is no better on the Ball than Bennett and fucking woeful on the ground and small and weak aerially.

Not sure what our tactics are at the minute. The switch of play is non existent. Our only ball is the lump upfront and play for second balls (which we don’t win).

Neves is playing his way out of a move and Jota is playing worse than he did the start of last season. Needs dropping (although we only have a 19 yr old to replace him in the current system).

We’ve left ourselves massively short in the window. There’s no way Vallejo was our first choice. He was bought In as a squad player and now he’s having to start games in the PL. I’m not having the Donk comparison. Donk has good pedigree before the move and hadn’t actually been given a sniff so we couldn’t assess. Valejo ain’t going to grow 2 inches and put on 3 stone this year so I can already see he’s going to struggle. Particularly in a back 3 that has Coady in it.

We’ve stood still and some of our better players have regressed. We couldn’t attract players in the summer so how are we going to get people to come in Jan when we’re languishing in the bottom half (last 32 of Europa league though...). Going to have to throw the cheque book at people, but you could argue we should have done that in the first place.

At least Cutrone got a goal. If we’re going to persist with route one then go 442 and play him and Raul. Instead we’re playing long ball football with possession players. Baffling

Agree with all of that.

Where this long ball shite has come from I don't know but it doesn't work with the personnel we have. Also far too happy to let the opposition have the ball and sit back. We never did that to anywhere near this extent last season .
