Wolves 1-0 West Ham: Verdict Thread

My criticism was that up until this season he's been poor positionally, powder puff in the tackle and generally seemed like a rabbit in the headlights. I guess the coaching wouldn't have helped but since being given the captaincy it is like he now has an inner belief and he's showing some leadership. All qualities I thought we were getting when we signed him.

He's been consistently excellent for 3 seasons now and the criticism of him before that was always overblown anyway

Don't really agree with much of this, I'm not seeing the same things, certainly not on a continuous basis.
Where I've had issues with him is his attacking output, no-where near good enough but maybe I was expecting too much, we'll miss him, especially his one on one defending and his speed/engine.

He’s also fabulous in possession in tight spaces and has the ability to bring the side forward at pace with his strong running. If he had a better delivery on him he’d have stayed at the upper echelons of the game rather than having 5 years with us.

He’s maybe the best 1-on-1 defender the club has had, certainly since I’ve been around.

Jonny Otto was unbeatable 1-on-1 before his injuy
Probably true, though for whatever reason I feel like teams never really tried to target him like they do with Nelson.

Enjoyed being back at the match. It wasn't straightforward but West Ham only ever really threatened off our own mistakes, often caused by the double trouble of us not trusting Sa with the ball (with good cause) and Toti having a war crime of a game in possession.

After a poor first 10 minutes we played some excellent stuff in the first half. Genuinely good football. Then we rode it out second half, it does tell when we have hardly anyone on the bench that you'd actually want to bring on.

That's us safe now surely. Ipswich aren't going to magically win 5 games.

Vitor Pereira bloody loves it here and he's a proper manager. Don't fall out with him Jeff.

Just got back in from the game, thought we were worthy winners. Controlled the first half and whilst the second half was scrappy we rarely looked troubled.
VP has done what was exactly needed and was organised us defensively.
That’s 7 points from 3 games with no Cunha, the midfield pair of Jaoa and Andre control matches very well and I think it’ll more damaging if one of those 2 are injured.
Thought Semedo led the team well tonight and worked extremely hard.
JSL 10 goals in your first PL season is nothing to be sniffed at.
As for West Ham, terrible performance and have lots of baggage players who’ll be hard to shift.
The ref was hopeless and inconsistent, lost complete control of the game early on how Paqueta avoided a yellow card is comical.

Great result that should see us safe but both Toti and Sa with the ball at his feet are absolute bomb scares, makes watching a 1-0 victory tough going.

Pereira has got us 20 points in his 14 games without a preseason and with someone else's squad.

For those less good at maths it would mean we would hit the magic 40 point mark next season with ten games to go... Obviously we will lose Cunha, but all in all I ma optimistic about the next season assuming Jeff and Co don't fuck it up somehow........ (listen to the manager Jeff, he knows his onions)...

I think the games without Cunha have really been the final bit of winning me over and impressing me. As stated 7pts from 3 with one to go is a fantastic return of any 3 game spell in this league. Now closer to the sides ahead than the sides below, never would have imagined that previously.

The fact that West Ham, Everton, and Tottenham are all theoretically catchable is an unbelievable achievement given how impossible that seemed a month ago.

Will have to see a replay back but I thought from the NB that the goal was very saveable, deflection or not. Not our problem.

Kilman is a shocking signing for £40m, nothing we didn't know but his game hasn't moved on at all, no leadership, takes no command of situations, so safe and regressive on the ball. We ought to be on Rogue Traders for charging that much.

Agbadou is a big part of the reason for that. It's amazing what a difference having a defender who actually can defend makes.

I might be an 80s throwback in some respects but not really when it comes to football. 80s football was rubbish.

Nevertheless I very much enjoyed it when Agba gave it a 70 yard 1983 style hoof downfield when Toti was dicking about (again).

He's quality, I just don't know why we didn't sign him 6 months earlier if he was on our radar and we were selling a first choice CH.

Re Semedo my only criticism of him is that he's not really a wing-back but a very good full-back. His one on one defending is possibly the best at the club, but he sometimes switches off positionally in our own box. He's been a very good player for us and Lima needs to develop into a good consistent player to replace him.

I love them both, but Aggie and Toti are very similar for me in that they both always look like they’re about to fuck up. And then more often than not, they make it work.

They’re like what Stearman wanted to be.

I can’t get my head round the fact that other clubs have been sleeping on this guy. Seems to have the lot whilst others clubs singing what appears to be worse players for twice the price from the same league.
