Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace verdict thread

It's not about the opposition right now. There's nothing about us that suggests we can get points against anyone in this league. No quality and calamitous defending but more importantly no leadership, no fight, no belief and no bravery.

I fucking hate this group of players. I think Slink posted the other day about giving them support under Edwards and maybe something special could happen. I'm sorry but there's not one player in our squad at the moment who deserves anything other than an absolute hammering from the fans. A group of gutless cowards. I'm going to all of the next 5 games (haven't decided on Liverpool and United yet), I fully expect us to lose every single one of them. There was a small showing of support for Edwards yesterday which spared the players from what should've been a barrage of abuse in response to another pathetic performance but it will turn quickly, maybe even as early as next Sunday and I'll be right behind it.

I was talking to the owner of Cafe Rosa* on Litchfield St before the game yesterday and she's really worried about her business next season if attendances drop. There will be businesses all over the City worrying about the same thing. The ticket prices are extortionate and the fans have been treated like shit. It's been years with very little to celebrate.

I've said for a few years that relegation has been coming, I don't actually blame this shoddily assembled squad for getting relegated really. That's on Jeff Shi and nobody else. The way that they've completely capitulated this season has been a fucking disgrace though. They don't deserve our support. A fleet of hopeless, spineless, weasel cunts the fucking lot of them.

* Great little place by the way, really good Aloo Paratha
I think we have to try over the next 4-5 games no matter what you think of them because something could happen. It won’t but it could. It’s not about them for me it’s about Wolves. After those games when we are completely cut adrift then i think it’s fair game but i still want Fosun to be getting the majority of the stick.

On the wider point of Wolves still being in the game upto the first goal, as others have alluded to that just isn't the case.

The team talk that opposition managers/coaches will give when approaching Wolves will be really straightforward.

It'll go along the lines that they've already got at least a point from the game as Wolves are so goalshy that this will be the easiest game for the defense and goalkeeper. From there they'll say that although we've already got a point then the three are there for the taking as that Wolves defense and goalkeeper(s) are a total shambles.

Wolves pose as much danger to opposition as a plant pot...

Correct. As a coach you'll be saying to "get at" Wolves from the first whistle. Home or away. No need to "quieten the crowd", "keep it goalless for the first 15 minutes", or any of those other cliches.

Press them, score first, coast to the win, collect your bonus. You won't have an easier game all season.

I get that but I don't see the Edwards appointment as changing anything. These players have already proven that they're undeserving of wearing our crest. They don't care about this club and I don't care about them, Edwards is just a simple idiot who's put himself in the crossfire. It's unfortunate but I've got no sympathy for him, he shouldn't have taken the job.

I joined in with the Rob Edwards chants in the second half because for a brief period they actually looked like it mattered to them. Once they conceded yet another weak goal they folded and showed their true colours. The last half an hour they put in the minimum possible effort, rolled over and accepted their fate. No effort, no pride. For the few fans left at the end to applaud that was ridiculous, they were completely undeserving of it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Fosun should be shielded from criticism in any way but this group of players are equally deserving of it. Not in a month or two, now.

I can't get over the revelation a few months ago that our scouting department still does things the old-fashioned way (like the eye test) rather than using data analysis like everyone else. It made everything click into place about our transfer business since we were promoted - so many of the punts on young prospects have had a scattershot, random feel to them, offset by whoever Uncle Jorge could point our way from the Portuguese and Spanish leagues.

For an established PL side that is a total indictment of the club ownership and management. These are not serious people.
Link? I would love for their to be more mainstream journos look into getting info/sources from those involved in our scouting or recruitment because it really has been absolutely directionless. Apart from Hobbs' love for South American scouting reports it's felt like we've known little on how they operate (other than "Shi knows best" ofc).

Really would be nice if they realise an On/Off/On/Off partnership Shi has with Mendes is not fit for a PL side, and we aren't one.

I agree the Edwards appointment is not going to change anything, he’s not good enough for me and although he’s only had a week with them that team selection and the approach and then the subs were appalling and something Vitor could have done. If he picks Toti, Jackson, Munetsi and Tolu(i just don’t rate him at all) again and brings players like Hwang on he’s not going to last long.

The players are demoralised, they were definitely trying really hard up until the Chelsea game in the cup but from there they’ve got nothing left and when you’re not very good anyway this is what’s left. I agree that a lot of them don’t deserve to wear the shirt but with most it’s because they aren’t good enough and they shouldn’t have been signed. We’re always going to feel it more as fans, it is just a job to the players though and they’re working for a toxic organisation and most people in that situation would try to leave and you would see their productivity go down.

I just hope whatever happens Molineux stays loud in some way, we can’t let this season just drift by and not be heard during the shitshow. I don’t think it will happen though and it’s going to get more depressing as we crumble more and more.

So I really couldn’t be more critical of the club, and have no rose tinted views on our merits vis a vis Palace yesterday.

However, this isn’t completely right as we very much in the game in the early part of the second half. That doesn’t mean I’d have bet a penny on us winning it as what came next was, as you say, predictably shambolic. Yet, the facts are that we could and should have scored to take the lead, mainly as I don’t think Palace approached the game with a great deal of endeavour in that second half. They ultimately didn’t need to, but teams have lost to even worse than Wolves due to complacency before.

In case you think I’m nuts, that can be the case while still agreeing we are an absolute disgrace from top to bottom.

I guess that's our best hope of getting any points... that the opposition just don't take us seriously any longer and fall foul of their own hubris...

To think we all thought that selling JSL to Newcastle would have been a 'relegation guarantee'.

Fat lot of good it did keeping him

The offer came in too late in the window otherwise he'd have been gone. He's an ok player when he has good players around him, but this season he's surrounded by scrubs. Looks disinterested, knows there'll be interest for him in January (he can hope), or the summer after we're relegated. Has little to gain by running himself into the ground and risking an injury.

Leeds winning effectively puts us 11 points from safety, it’s a pointless number as it might as well be 50 as any hope of staying up is futile.

Spot on.

They're already on 11 points which many people are saying we won't get to this year, so it's not like we can catch them even if they lose out for the rest of the season ;). Anyway, they lost because, a bit like us, they're just not very good.

I never, ever buy this reasoning.

It's not 'just a job', it makes them millionaires who are hero worshipped around the world (with all the endorsements and sponsorship opportunities that brings).

They should fucking care; if they want 'just a job' they can go and work for Aldi

Also, I bet precious little of Shi's toxicity even touches most of them
