Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace verdict thread

You'd be surprised how many people who don't watch Wolves every week think Hwang is quite good.

Same as they thought Sa, Doherty and Kilman were quite good. West Ham are currently finding out the hard way on the latter.

Back to the game. For those of us who for whatever stupid reason sat through it, we were, by hook or by crook, in it at the 55th minute or so. At that stage, their goal was slightly fortuitous - notwithstanding that they were evidently a better team. But an equaliser wasn’t out of the question. Without at all being creative, chances had ‘somehow emerged’. Might be the best way of putting it.

So why the hell bring on Hwang? Who killed the game immediately. I was hoping ‘knowing the club’ might have meant ‘knowing not to do that. Obviously’. Not what time to leave the house for the training ground to avoid the school rush or the birthday of the receptionist.
I'm still angry about that now. We were ok 2nd half up to the goal, even then I thought we might have a chance to get on back. Replacing Munetsi was a good move, but fucking bringing that shit head on ruined it all.

Surprised that people are saying that there was a noticable increase in effort today. I thought that they were just as pathetic as they've been all season in that regard. The last 20 minutes was a fucking stroll in the park for Palace so I won't be having any of this 'at least we gave it a go' bollocks.

Solid enough in the first half but that's the least I'd expect seeing as we were playing a flat back 5, 3 midfielders with no creativity and 2 mutants up front. Created absolutely nothing and still managed to give them a massive chance (Møller Wolfe very lucky with that shit tackle as well, he is absolutely wank) but given how utterly hopeless we are getting to half time at 0-0 was some kind of positive I suppose.

The first 15/20 minutes of the second half were actually quite good. We actually managed to apply a bit of pressure and turned it into more of an open game instead of the footballing equivalent of watching paint dry in the first half. Then we face the first set piece for a while, collectively turn off, no pressure on the edge of the box, everyone static as the ball rebounds and the game is gone. Edwards reckons we 'took the shackles off' after that but I have no idea what the fuck he's talking about personally because what I saw was a team just totally give up.

The second is a lovely hit but fucking Hwang can go and fuck himself for giving the ball away like that. Arias can take a fucking walk as well for that miss. No excuse for that, absolutely shite.

People were streaming out after the 2nd went in, the place looked embarrassing at the end. The mood was clearly apathetic today but it will turn soon, towards the players and the board. There were a smattering of fans left at the end applauding (why?) but loads shouting abuse as well.

Shite atmosphere, shite players, shite coaching. We are shite.

This is perfect.

Between now and new year our games are:
Villa (a)
Forest (h)
Man Utd (h)
Arsenal (a)
Brentford (h)
Liverpool (a)
Man Utd (a)

If we’re lucky we may scrape 3 draws.
Someone will tell me that we can beat Forest and Brentford at home, pls we’re a mile behind even those clubs. The only way we win any games is the opposition having a complete western and us being at 100% all round the pitch. I think Arsenal will maul us and I think we’ll be beaten with absolute ease in all the away games.
Everything is just so predictable even though we were at 0-0 at half time you knew it was just a matter of time until we conceded and lost.
Packing your back 5 with Tcatchou, Toti and Wolfe in it is just padding out the crap. Sadly apart from toti it’s about as strong as you can go.
I think the plan was to stay in the game and nick something towards then end and if it ended 0-0 it stopped the rot and a clean sheet also.
VP did a good job until April but the absolute mess he’s created since then is unbelievable.
Our players have an average skill set and are not very football savvy mentally and often make the wrong decisions.

Part of me wonders if we'd have been better off going down with GON last year, at least we'd probably have put up a better fight with the likes of Cunha in the team, still would have fucked off the likes of Guedes and Fabio in the summer but not filled our squad with Pereira and Teti's mediocrities

The law of averages says we'll win one eventually so why not one of those? Even the worst team ever managed a solitary win and the best teams can have an off day. I think most of us by now are resigned to our fate. We're watching a bunch of competition winners try and compete in a very tough league with predictable results. Handing over transfer policy to Vitor and his mate has proven to be catastrophic.

It's not about the opposition right now. There's nothing about us that suggests we can get points against anyone in this league. No quality and calamitous defending but more importantly no leadership, no fight, no belief and no bravery.

I fucking hate this group of players. I think Slink posted the other day about giving them support under Edwards and maybe something special could happen. I'm sorry but there's not one player in our squad at the moment who deserves anything other than an absolute hammering from the fans. A group of gutless cowards. I'm going to all of the next 5 games (haven't decided on Liverpool and United yet), I fully expect us to lose every single one of them. There was a small showing of support for Edwards yesterday which spared the players from what should've been a barrage of abuse in response to another pathetic performance but it will turn quickly, maybe even as early as next Sunday and I'll be right behind it.

I was talking to the owner of Cafe Rosa* on Litchfield St before the game yesterday and she's really worried about her business next season if attendances drop. There will be businesses all over the City worrying about the same thing. The ticket prices are extortionate and the fans have been treated like shit. It's been years with very little to celebrate.

I've said for a few years that relegation has been coming, I don't actually blame this shoddily assembled squad for getting relegated really. That's on Jeff Shi and nobody else. The way that they've completely capitulated this season has been a fucking disgrace though. They don't deserve our support. A fleet of hopeless, spineless, weasel cunts the fucking lot of them.

* Great little place by the way, really good Aloo Paratha

They couldn't keep GON around. It's not like they wanted to remove him, he survived the El Sackico loss. His incompetence was actively hurting the club. If it's true they tried to bring him back then I think that would almost constitute criminal negligence by the board (Shi). Cunha was going regardless of who we brought in, that was the point of the supposed new contract - to set the price at which we'd sell.

But Vitor flattered to deceive with those six wins and Shi was fooled into thinking he (Vitor) knew what he was doing. Clearly he didn't and we've ended up with a freak show of a team. And they'll act like an anchor on the club for a while yet, dragging us down and down.

We haven't (just) ended up with this bunch of cunts because of 'Vítor & his mate'. This has been years in the making, not one shit summer.

The reduction in quality I can almost understand and accept given how Fosun's outlook has changed in the years since they bought us, it was almost inevitable. It's the endless blunders, the constant lies and the disgusting ticket prices that didn't have to happen and why they deserve to be hounded out of Wolverhampton. On the playing side, there have been loads of far worse squads than ours that have survived or at least made an honest go of it in this League. Leeds & Burnley are shite and will probably go down with us but at least they're having a fucking swing at it. The reason why we're on 2 points instead of 10 or 11 isn't just because of a lack of quality or poor management, it's because they've got no fucking bollocks. They're a fucking disgrace and I'm sick of the lot of them.

VP and Teti are just the ones who put the last nail in the coffin, we all know where things turned south.
5 years of shocking recruitment and over promoting people to make football decisions. Keeping clueless yes men managers far longer than they should’ve and binning off or engineering quality coaches out the club who knew their stuff.
I agree with Lycan that the players are gutless, effort is the bare minimum requirement and isn’t something you praise.
Gutless as in I think they play it safe when the scores are level. Character is being able to continue to express yourself when winning ie v Leeds and BHA or going on to win v Burnley when at 2-2.
Fulham, Chelsea and yesterday were classic examples of how we just fall apart when going behind.

When you look at it, Nuno was the exception to the rule of Fosuns tenure. Zenga and Lambert can both be put in the charlatan Lage/Vitor bracket or British and below average O'Neil/Edwards bracket.

Nuno ought to be canonised in years to come for working with that wanker for five years.

Yep, good-for-nothing dregs like Hwang, the Buenos, Hoever (still fucking here!), our awful GK cohort, failed punts like Gonzalez, Rodrigo and Lima, all pre-date Vitor.

That's before you get onto our total lack of bodies and variety in CM, and still having Doc as part of a 2025 PL squad.

Vitor and Teti just piled more useless toss on top and strolled away with a pay-off

Our problems go back years as we’ve had no succession planning. In the last few years we’ve singed loads of players who have had time to settle in and adapt to living in England and playing in the PL. Sadly not one of the likes of Hugo Bueno, Santiago Bueno, Doyle, Bellegarde, Hoever, Djiga, Munetsi, Guedes and Toti is/was close to the required level. Rather than learn the lesson and go for quality we’ve doubled down with more of the same. It’s pretty clear now that, with the possible exception of Krejci, the summer signings are just more dross that like their predecessors will struggle even in the Championship.

It’s scary to think we cleared the decks of a load of players not up to the job only to bring in a bunch that are just as bad if not worse.

As for the game yesterday apparently our XG was 1.76, proof that there are indeed lies, damned lies and statistics. We never looked like scoring. A couple of observations I’d line RE to take on board, firstly get JSL to move his legs as much as he waves his arms and secondly, and most importantly, never inflict Hwang on us again.

I can't get over the revelation a few months ago that our scouting department still does things the old-fashioned way (like the eye test) rather than using data analysis like everyone else. It made everything click into place about our transfer business since we were promoted - so many of the punts on young prospects have had a scattershot, random feel to them, offset by whoever Uncle Jorge could point our way from the Portuguese and Spanish leagues.

For an established PL side that is a total indictment of the club ownership and management. These are not serious people.

apparently our XG was 1.76

The Arias chance was probably 0.99 of that the fucking oaf. Krejci another 0.5 or so.

Edwards was waffling on about losing the match in moments, they took their chances and we didn't take ours. Bollocks. If we had scored those 2 chances we'd have lost 3-2.

If we sell either Gomes or Andre in January the best use of the money would be get a recruitment team in place well in advance of the summer to avoid yet another shit show.

It all stems from utterly shit decisions from the top. Consistently making poor decisions and having shite in senior leadership positions only has one outcome.

Clueless when it comes to understanding what a well run football club looks like. The only time we've ever done well is when we outsourced recruitment to Mendes and he wasn't interested in just fleecing us.

They had lightening in a bottle and were too arrogant to understand how we got there.
