Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace verdict thread

I still go every game as I was foolish enough to waste over £800 to go and watch the team and was hopeful (ish) that this season would be better after we had binned off that idiot O'Neil and gone all in on Vitor. I did worry that Vitor's early success would fade to mediocrity this season but never in my worst nightmares did I envisage just how poor this season would be.

Believe me, sitting there every fucking game with zero hope and waiting for the next fuck up to see us skulking out of the stadium with our chins on the ground as our visitors celebrate wildly has become a fucking miserable experience, soul destroying.

The couple I sit with and I were discussing after the game about various problems and issues we have in our private lives and how going to Wolves should provide some sort of escapism but is proving to be the exact opposite.

Biggest cheer today was Hi Ho Silver Lining returning to pre-kick off. Rob Edwards did a full lap of honour at the end applauding each stand. Hwang was a complete disgrace again and Munetsi and Tchat are not footballers.

We are completely fucked, good luck Rob

I obviously care but I'm massively disconnected right now. I don't like any more than 4-5 of the players (I actively dislike way more than that), the manager is someone I would never have considered hiring two years ago, the chairman is a cunt, we're clearly already done and the prices are ridiculous. Absolutely zero intention of attending a game any time soon.

How have you lost the likes of me FFS.
I could have gone today. North of £60 for me and my son to sit in the golf stand in shit weather for a game I knew we'd lose. Over £80 if I wanted to treat us to a roof. Why would you? STH's are different as they've already put the money in, but why would someone willingly pay to be disappointed/pissed off/angry/upset?

Because it’s not the lowest ever that’s why
So?

Derby were amongst the highest spenders in the Championship a decade ago and nabbed players off rivals quite readily, they didn't say "I'm not signing for you because you were awful in 2008", it's nonsense.

6-7 years thereafter they were very much in a state of mediocrity for a good few years post relegation and haven’t been back since. Seriously doubt we’ll offer enough of a financial carrot for players to come here post relegation.

Yeah but that's a separate issue.

Pretending our points tally this season (whatever it ends up being) will be an anvil around our neck for years come what may is just silly. No-one will care.

I know he's not the problem here (although he'll become one eventually), and most people will take this at face value as an attempt to connect, but I can't be doing with this head-patting shit

Maybe not in the way JD is describing, but getting humiliated out of the league could be such a morale crusher to the fanbase and remaining playing staff that it precipitates an downward spiral for successive seasons afterwards

Thing is though mate we've got very little to cling to right now.

We went from Nuno (best manager nearly all of us have ever seen) to Lage (charlatan and a cunt) then corrected that to Lopetegui (clearly is quite a good manager, even if he is a snake and looks like Chris de Burgh)...we know we've downgraded in that area like we have in every single other area, to a massive degree.

But just caring, putting players broadly speaking in the right place (Vitor lost the plot here) and being in it for the long haul, well it'll have to do for now. We can't have a Terry Connor tribute act for the next six months.

Here me out and yes Dan you'll come back at me with the usual 'Nah there all wank nothing coming out of the yoof' However we have this bunch of cunts until things possible change in January, so why don't we look at the youth and at least give some of those performing, Mane, Holman and I'm sure there are a few others that would look half better then these. Mane in for Hwang for me for next week, not sure why Edwards decided against him. There has to be some that could surprise because at this stage why not.

For the fans: well we've double dropped once already (and if we hadn't sacked DJ, probably would have done in 2004/05 as well). Nothing new there. Thousands will drop off the gate regardless

Playing staff: They can all go for all I care, fucking crap

I wouldnt judge anyone for spending the money to go to Wolves atm, I also wouldnt for anyone choosing not too. Up to them.
Ive always considered supporting a football team to be madness unless you follow one of the big teams of the world you have no control over the outcome of games, it costs a fortune. For most fans around the world its various degrees of disappointment for long periods.
Tbf I've had it easy, 2 league cups in my supporting lifetime.
I suppose its difficult currently because most if not all of us have put up with years of mediocrity followed by the Nuno years and then the recent chaos is particularly galling.

Okoduwa, Mané and Holman might perhaps be worth a limited go (as would Storer if he weren't out on loan) but it's a big ask.

Generally though it really is a very poor Academy crop and I take no pleasure in saying that.

Lets be honest Dan we are in the Championship next year so some of theses players can be starters if given minutes, no you don't want to ruin confidence with defeats, but if there good strong characters they will flourish, if they don't then they will end in League Two for the rest of the career. This is a gamble I want to see Edwards make.

I was surprised Mane wasn't in the squad today as I thought Edwards had a rep for giving youth a chance

Back to the game. For those of us who for whatever stupid reason sat through it, we were, by hook or by crook, in it at the 55th minute or so. At that stage, their goal was slightly fortuitous - notwithstanding that they were evidently a better team. But an equaliser wasn’t out of the question. Without at all being creative, chances had ‘somehow emerged’. Might be the best way of putting it.

So why the hell bring on Hwang? Who killed the game immediately. I was hoping ‘knowing the club’ might have meant ‘knowing not to do that. Obviously’. Not what time to leave the house for the training ground to avoid the school rush or the birthday of the receptionist.
