Wolves 0 - 2 Brentford: "That Familiar Sinking Feeling" Verdict Thread

Absolute dire hoofball no imagination probably the worst performance since Ipswich at home under Solbakken. Starting to feel Kenny's time is up here we have come to a point where we have plateaued.

I have always been staunchly behind Jackett up to now, but I feared the worst when I got there to find that he had decided to leave Price out. It was obvious what would happened .Midfield non existent, Macdonald pathetic, team with no idea other than hopeful punts up the field to LeFondre. Iorfa had a nightmare, Only Hause of the defence seemed adequate. Only when Price was back on was there any idea or competitiveness at all. Brentford totally outplayed us in every department, its going to be a long hard season we look completely clueless.

Not been to the match so no direct comments on the performance, but a few thoughts:
For 3 consecutive seasons Price has come into the team and performances and results have improved, yet KJ still doesn't seem to rate him and drops him at the first opportunity. Now I think he is a limited player and can see why you would want to upgrade (not that Saville, Rowe, Evans or Coady are that), but surely he can see that he brings the best out of McDonald and when McDonald is at is his best so are we?

433 is a decent formation in this league IF you have the correct personnel; Ince Martin Russell works, Afobe Le Fondre Van La Parra doesn't.

Defeat at Derby cannot be written off simply as being beaten by a better team, it killed confidence last year and could do again

I don't believe Jackett signed or wanted Byrne and seems to be going out of the way to show this. He hasn't been given a chance and the final substitution today when chasing the game for me shows this. It also brings into question whether he wanted to sell Stearman

Ojo only seems to work as a sub and not a starter

Are we indulging Afobe with this 'wanting to be involved all the time' crap. Play him up top, see his last goal against Huddersfield and numerous last season as evidence, McDonald can't play killer through balls to him when they are stood 5 yds apart in the centre circle

I've started to think this for the last week or so and wondered if the powers that be panicked and thought "sign someone, quick" after the outcry over Stearman being sold and Byrne was dropped in Ken's lap.

I will never understand why you WUM like this Frank.

I am not. I just cannot understand all the over the top negativity. Wolves lost a game of football, win the next couple and everyone will be singing our praises again.

Although I'm not convinced that the negativity is in fact OTT, there is absolutely no disputing your point here.

Was listening last night, but not on here as feeling like shit & struggling to stay awake after taking stuff to deal with a cold.

The football didn't help.

Not going to comment on individual players as can't tell enough from the commentary, but we clearly gave Brentford (who are a competent though limited team) far to much time & space to play. With an inexperienced defence the more pressure you allow the opposition to apply the more likely they are to make mistakes. Really needed greater impetus & to defend from the front forcing them to play long balls rather than being allowed to stroll up the pitch.

Sounded as if Price did OK when he came on & ALF appeared to be trying with the little he had to work with. Afobe one decent chance missed, but even he's not going to score from every chance he gets.

Up for the Boro game & worried. Not sure where we go from here, Massive changes to the team will not help & in any event there's limited help from the bench at the moment anyway. Doherty will come in as apart from Iorfa going off injured think he also got a yellow which gives him a one match ban on totting up rules (may have got that last bit wrong as was struggling to follow the game with any clarity)

I don't doubt that people go over the top, although not so much on here, but the comments of those that went are worrying. Last night was not a bad day at the office it was the latest in a long series of performances this year which have been poor and by the sounds of it the worst of the lot. Perhaps you could offer an opinion as to why this is, what needs to change or if you genuinely do believe Kenny will turn it around, what is is that leads you to that opinion? That in my view would be more illuminating than pithy one liners and holy than thou digs at others which is the style you employ whenever we are going through a bad trot / have a bad performance.

When TSB and myself comment how we have, that's not going OTT. We are by nature not the sort to slate

We simply HAVE to play 3 in midfield. Whether that's Price deeper with Coady and Kmac further up, or two of those three with Edwards or Wallace ahead of them, I don't know, but 442 is dead.
Sick of being passed round.

Afobe is really frustrating too. Play him up top, or don't play him at all.

Not bringing Byrne on for Iorfa is plain ridiculous too. So much wrong, and for the first time I genuinely think Kenny may be struggling.

The image of Philip Hofmann dancing around our keeper and rolling the ball into the net will be burnt into my retinas until my dying day.

Up until 4 tanning whiskys with Brentford fans in the Travelodge bar, train back up north in half an hour. Today can fuck right off and so can Wolves. Last night was grim on so many levels.

Rajiv was our best player and he was shite. Hause, Price & le Fondre are the only other players who I wouldn't assault if they tried to speak to me today.

KJ needs to impress in the next 3/4 very tricky games.

The hysterical angst?

Sanctimonious post.

No-one is being hysterical as far as I have read. People are pretty much seeing the match I saw except not giving Brentford enough credit for a good midfield. We were poor all over the pitch. The so called apathy of supporters is unfair. It's up to the team to perform and the manager to facilitate that.
What I didn't like was booing them off at half and full time but paying customers/supporters can show their feelings.
As for KJ tbh he must be pulling his hair out as he was one of the most consistent players ever. For me he doesn't get the best from what he's got. He will not be sacked but he has to get something going before Christmas I'd have thought.

Depends where you stand i suppose, plenty of hysterics where i was, it's not being sanctimonious at all, it's just a style of support that fans find difficult to accept when things aren't going well.
I don't need comments like that just because i refuse to take it as seriously as you and others do.

It's all good fun really, i'm the smiley on the right, surrounded by the left last night.

To be honest, the right side of the South Bank were brilliant as they always are, perhaps i need to re-locate.

You didn't see it, it was terrible, that's why people are cheesed off. Until you see the game your understanding will never be complete.

I'm over to the right (facing the pitch) and it's not bad where we stand...I mean sit of course

I think that was the problem last night Trev, it wasn't any fun at all, no decent football, a poor opposition, no quality in the game, no thunderbastard of a shot, no outstanding goal keeping performance/ howler. Just nothing from either team.

I said to the missus it was like paying to go and see any film starring Nicholas Cage at the cinema and paying for an IMAX ticket, then expecting it to be entertaining.

The problem for Kenny Jackett is that you don't have to look many miles - St Andrew's sadly - to see what can be done. No-one, but no-one, on this forum thought at the beginning of the season that Birmingham had a better squad than us, and I doubt that anyone thinks it now. And that club is in a far bigger financial meltdown than we are. But after 12 games they are 9 points and 8 goals ahead of us. Jackett is clearly not getting anywhere near the best out of the players at his disposal and for me his job should be under serious threat

It was rank last night Mike. The baldy fooker two rows behind was on top form.

Wolverhampton Wandereeeeers SHIT SUPPORT! Wolverhampton Wandereeeeeers SHIT SUPPORT!

There's always one Sam and he is ours! I weasn't there to tell him to stfu

Probably the worst performance under KJ so far and the pressure is rightly mounting on him now.

Afobe can't play that deep role without Dicko playing the part of two strikers - ALF can't do that and Afobe ends up chasing the ball and having too much possession in completely the wrong parts of the pitch.

KMac can't play without Price (who was our best player yesterday), yet Kenny drops him at every conceivable point.

We've lost our identity and our ethos. Our game plan seems non-existent - once we went 4-3-3 it was as if Saunders was in charge and Danny Batth became a poor man's Paul Butler playing at quarterback launching terrible long ball after terrible long ball.

Coady on the right of midfield, RVLP looking like our best attacking option, Afobe tackling in our defensive third. Doherty on when we're chasing a 1-0 defeat. Aimless.

Brentford weren't unbeatable. Every time Afobe or RVLP ran at them they looked scared. But last night we were a team totally consumed by lethargy and devoid of invention.

Not sure how the ownership of the club will affect Kenny's position (would Moxey fire the bullet?) but if we remain winless until after the Blues game I feel his time should be called.

Yeah, i know, you're right, it's crap but i just can't get wound up about it, watching Wolves has always, more often than not, been hard going most of the time for many years.

When we fuck up fans have a go and rightly so, i shouldn't moan i know but when you've spent the night putting up with ironic mimicry of my 'unlucky' rather than 'boo' the emotion can even get the better of me when i get home.
