Wolves 0-1 Liverpool: Verdict Thread

I don't get this biggest threat nonsense either, being realistic we weren't any threat going forward today.

Traore isn't a threat when he's wide and we have no fucker in the box to hit.

Well exactly.

We played with a back 7, Hwang is rubbish, Raul got nothing out their back line being isolated and Traore ran after the ball a bit. Running after hoofs, goal kicks and long balls causing a mistake was literally our biggest (and only) threat. Very low bar but that’s where we at.

Our other options were Trincao doing nothing or Podence getting bullied. So Traores pace was our only hope

I'd probably say it was more of a minor annoyance than threat. Never looked like creating anything.

It’s why you can write off nine games against city Liverpool and chelsea this season tbf. They are miles better than us and many others. If we get anything it’s a bonus. That’s not defeatist just realistic

Backs to the wall and no attacking threat, but a pretty heroic defensive performance and almost became the first team to keep Liverpool from scoring since March I believe.

Can't complain with the result given their dominance and how much possession we let them have.

That said, I'm not sure how else we could have played. Traore as an outlet sometimes worked and often didn't. As someone has said, if he doesn't get the ball to feet then he either doesn't care or doesn't know what to do. Two attacks I remember today, he just didn't bother keeping up with play at all, standing still near the halfway line.

Then there were times when he was flying and got hacked down. When he does get the ball into feet, he's either unplayable or he gives the ball away. On balance, I'm done. If we can get a good fee for him and get ourselves at the very least (1) a centre half that will enable us to play a back 4 and (2) a central midfielder to complement Neves and Moutinho, I'd be happy.

Nothing stuck for us when we cleared the ball long. Raul and Hwang both ineffective, but hard to blame Raul when the service was so poor. Hwang's close control is really bad at times and probably below the standard needed for this league. He works hard and can clearly finish (with both feet), but you need more than that at this level these days.

We seriously need some reinforcements.

RAN probably my MOTM.

In hindsight today, we lost 1-0 but we all know that they utterly dominated from minute one.

When you approach a game trying desperately to anything but lose, like we clearly did, it’s always a dangerous game to play - in fact, against the top sides, you’re almost always going to come unstuck at sone point. You really need some sort of counter attack too - and we didn’t really even have that today.

If Jota’s chance goes in, we have to come out and play and go for the equaliser. In that situation, it’s probably likely that Liverpool would have picked us off for at least a couple more.

Let’s be honest, heroic defensive display aside, we pretty much got what we deserved today.
Yep Ofcourse we did. They’re a different class. It’s just the 93rd minute that’s a killer

Ah that explains why I can hear THE MOST scouse person in the world on my train home loudly and drunkenly bemoaning the fact they didn't score two today.

One thing I will say is that Coady and Kilman were bloody superb again today and the Saiss clearance to prevent Salah tapping in was top drawer. Ait-Nouri was sensational too.

We played really well in defending the Alamo but the result reflected the play. The correct side took the three points, gutting as it was for the decider to arrive so late.

Tell him to stick his head out the window! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Felt the whole of the back 5 were superb. Well 6 apart from the Sa wonder for Jotas miss

Sa does have his brain farts! But the fact Jota missed was fucking funny even if it means Coady has no more kids!!!!

We could seriously see an England back three with Coady and Kilman . It’s unreal

It's called the 'Scouse inverse square law' , the further away from Liverpool they are the more Scouse they get :)

A minor niggle, not just today but every match, is how poor we are taking throw ins. Never seem to gain any advantage whatsoever especially as there always seems to be only 3 options. Most teams we play tend to have numerous players ready to receive, which they do with ease.

Fair point. Our throw ins corners and free kicks could do with significant improvement

Thought this too, it was like a regression to when McCarthy was in charge. When you could practically guarantee we'd lose the ball from virtually every throw in.
