Quick one how on earth do you keep track of where the puck actually is in ice hockey?

I'm ok if it stays on the ice, once its in thr air its invisible to my ancient eyes.

They did trials a few years back with a sensor in the puck. It glowed onscreen, with a longer tail the faster it was travelling. The problem was the pucks cost so much and if they went in the crowd they weren't getting them back.

I wonder if they could do something similar now with regular pucks and Hawkeye?
