It's really not that hard to set a team up to get the best out of such a player. It's a damning indictment on the manager that he hasn't been able to do it, bad decision after bad decision.
I would say Jordan Rhodes is a significantly more limited player and Blackburn have had no issues in getting a return out of him every year that they've owned him.
There's just no way that we'll go from turning down £12m in August 2015 to accepting say £8m in January 2016 and even less in June 2016 because his 'value has dropped', for one it hasn't and for two it doesn't work like that.
It's not especially difficult, no, but it isn't happening is it.
He was perfectly fine last year with Dicko doing all the donkey work, as were the rest of the side, but you take that away and you've got a team that doesn't control the game enough to fashion the sort of chances he needs to flourish.
He's good at what he does but it's quite one dimensional for me, I don't think I'd ever view him as someone who's irreplaceable, there are always people knocking around with the pace to get in behind and can finish to a decent standard. Not that many of them make it to the very top mind, which is possibly one of the reasons Arsenal were willing to let him go.
