Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

It's really not that hard to set a team up to get the best out of such a player. It's a damning indictment on the manager that he hasn't been able to do it, bad decision after bad decision.

I would say Jordan Rhodes is a significantly more limited player and Blackburn have had no issues in getting a return out of him every year that they've owned him.

There's just no way that we'll go from turning down £12m in August 2015 to accepting say £8m in January 2016 and even less in June 2016 because his 'value has dropped', for one it hasn't and for two it doesn't work like that.

It's not especially difficult, no, but it isn't happening is it.

He was perfectly fine last year with Dicko doing all the donkey work, as were the rest of the side, but you take that away and you've got a team that doesn't control the game enough to fashion the sort of chances he needs to flourish.

He's good at what he does but it's quite one dimensional for me, I don't think I'd ever view him as someone who's irreplaceable, there are always people knocking around with the pace to get in behind and can finish to a decent standard. Not that many of them make it to the very top mind, which is possibly one of the reasons Arsenal were willing to let him go.

To be fair, I don't think he's looked anything like the superstar he looked last season. This season he's just looks like your average striker that pops up with a good rate of goals throughout the season.

It's the mark of a manager that worries more about the opposition than concentrating on the strengths of his own team. It's January and we still haven't really played him up front in a top two. That mindset is a load of shit in this division for all bar the likes of MK Dons/Rotherham who are punching above their weight being here at all.

Cameron Jerome is still getting a regular PL gig so the bar is not that high to establish one's self a level higher. He isn't at Arsenal's level and probably never will be - notwithstanding that he was and is a better bet than Sanogo who was inexplicably still getting gametime last season.

I don't disagree, but neither Jerome or Sanogo are £15m rated strikers and never will be. If he's still here in the summer then I'd imagine the most someone will bid is £8m. I can also see it being another Moxey episode where he tries to hang out for 12-15m and then sells him at the end of the window with us having no chance to get in a replacement.

Can't get it to upload, bur Byrne has tweeted Wallace:

'All the best mate @jedwallace62

Can you run 18k a game good'

Says it all really.

Sounds like some nonsense in-joke to me, Wallace's response is something about winning his first corner.

I wonder how Portsmouth supporters feel about the way we haven't used Jed.

I don't think he's the type of player to carry the team and he will look a good but not outstanding player when on his own. However you pair him with another (Alli or Dicko) and he elevates his game to top class.

I think Byrne's post shows a little unprofessionalism and that Jackett really has lost it.

Do you feel disrespect is rife at Wolves then?

When a manager's has lost it he's got no chance. Most on here think Jackett's lost it and Byrne and Wallace would agree.

Probably just between the younger players who feel they could offer much more than Undangerous Dave does

It's poor but I understand his frustration and FFS, WE can see that Edwards and Henry are keeping out better players. Imagine being one of those better players parked on the bench.

I don't even want to hate Edwards and Henry, the latter was exactly what we needed in L1 and Edwards will always give everything he has. Ken is making me hate them though. Edwards in particular.

Who knows, but you'd imagine a few of the fringe players are getting a bit disillusioned with Jackett's late sub and Edwards still on the pitch when admitting he's struggling to run around anymore.

3 in 14 isn't great though. If his form improves, and that would need Jackett to change the style of play, then his value may not go down, but if he carries on then his value in the summer will be a lot less.

Exactly, you've acknowledged yourself he's struggling as a result of his managers total incompetence rather than his own inability. You could put just about any good striker in this side and they would struggle with Jacketts anti-football. He's scored 10 goals in half a season with shite tactics and not starting every game, he's still on course to make 20 and his value is depreciating? Behave!

We're talking about a striker that is meant to be worth £15m. I really can't see any team valuing at over £8m in the summer.

With the market the way it is atm I'd be furious if we accepted any less than £12M. Brighton are about to announce the signing of some random dude from Ecuador for £7.5M and have had another bid of £10M accepted for Calleri from Boca Juniors, Derby & Boro have spent around £40M between them and Bournemouth paid £8M for a Championship full back in the summer.

Oh and they occupy 3 of the top 4 spots in the championship. No , spending money never gets you out of the league to the promised land does it.:whistle:

From Tim 2:
Strongly believed that Bournemouth are willing to stump up £12m for Afobe. Wolves would surely find that very hard to reject. #wwfc

Bournemouth clearly splashing the cash around; either by design or desperation to avoid FFP sanctions if they fall back into the Championship?

All we need to do is find someone emotionally invested enough to do that.

In case you didn't hear, Steve Morgan wants out. Your arguments are not making any sense lately.
