Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

I agree with you, the one thing we can't accuse the club of here is panic buying. Williamson has already played for us and Mason was chased in the summer. Neither are good enough to take us remotely close to the play-offs mind you but then that is a failing of the recruitment staff and the limitations of a manager who is bottom half of the championship material.

How about we give the players a chance?

Tell you what, some of you have impressive football knowledge compared to those employed to do it.

My word (not aimed at you Johnny)

I would love this.
Enthusiastic and talented, good lad and grounded. High hopes

You could say this about one or two others as well (including some who have been loaned out) - will at least see w3hat they are made of in the half season left where we are going nowhere.

Don't expect it to happen though

He is actually a chef, not a football player..maybe he can serve steakes/pies at molineux?

To be fair to Stefan, he clearly cared. He just wasn't ever Premier League standard.

I don't think anyone has straight up slagged him off (only read on here so don't know if he's getting pelters elsewhere). Only negatives I've seen are from people who are a bit underwhelmed or questioning the price tag.

He's getting pelters elsewhere!

So it seems Mason is by consensus overpriced at £3-£3.5mill. However does the market really reflect that? Someone with more idea than me (I don't follow other Champ teams closely) can you say what is generally seen as the value for a young striker that hopefully can score around 10+ goals a season in the Championship?

Or be loaned out as other talented players at our club?

Afobe - £2m
Dicko - £300k

There's two for starters. Of course you'll get players like Rhodes and McCormack skewing the average though.

I'm not really sure why people care what we get or what we pay for players.

In fairness, neither of those had proved themselves in the championship and could've been considered gambles, at least Mason has experience in the Champ.

True, but they were both young strikers who could hopefully score 10+ goals a season in the Championship. They met the requirements of the question asked so surely should still count as a legitimate answer.
