West Ham 0 v 1 Wolves: The Verdict Thread

Is it just me or does Patricio use his left foot for goalkicks?...odd behaviour for such a righty

What hand did he use for the wonder save from Sterling? Should have been left. But...... Just saying

The "wrong hand" save is nothing to do with righty/lefty though - it is a coached action. By going with the wrong hand (in terms of direction of dive, not what hand you are) you get better strength behind the ball, allowing you to push it away better (get it wrong you look like a right chump though)

Pickford versus Belgium ressies as an example

Get out of here with your coached reasoning, I want batshit mental theories from people that once played the game in hobnail boots on mudbath pitches when men were real men.

That was proper weird all round. It's the wrong hand but his dive is like nothing I've seen before. As if he were going for style points off the high board at the Olympics, all arched back and no distance.

On this one Fabianski thinks Adama will go across him, his weight's on the wrong side (I think) and then he can't readjust. He's way down the food chain of errors but after multiple viewings I think he should do better. Would have taken a decent save but that's what you're paid for, as Nuno says.

Yep

That's fair.

Just a little game I am playing with keepers. I have Pickford as a lefty. Pope and Fabianski righties, De Gea lefty, Schmiecal righty. Now I will study where they concede. Low to their weaker side is my favourite. Ok it may be utter bollocks, but I reckon I have spotted summut and I am having fun! I needed something on here. I was getting dogs abuse for my other theories about losing to relegated teams and the like!

Right. Off to check the tarot and runes :icon_redface:

On this one Cyber is right about the right/left thing. It is essentially a natural thing, you aren't sure which way the shot will be coming so when you see the leg move, body naturally goes that way then you are relying on your reactions and ability to move your legs quickly. He was let down by both

It shouldn't be, keepers tend to stay light on both feet until the last minute. I'm not sure great keepers have a preferred side.

It's taken me 6 years but a batshit mental theory gets agreement from another.

My work is done.....

and finally some top Gif work...retire now Cyber.

Fabianski is another righty. Sticks his foot out if it goes left! Schmiecal does the opposite.Pope is another righty. $#@!ing love this! You'll all scream " bollocks cyber" but just check out Schmiecal this weekend and you tube Pope!

You're talking out of your hat.

If Fabianski had done that then his dive would have been different. He really had no clue what was coming and reacted before to the shot came in so then it becomes the natural side. Essentially a very amateur moment for him.

Personally I think Adama has hit it too hard for Fabianski or anyone to be able to get to it.

Possibly but still doesn't excuse the poor effort from Fabianski.

Talking to coaches at all levels every keeper has a weaker side.
General consensus is it's there opposite side so a right handed/ right footed keeper would be weaker on his left.

However whilst this is glaringly obvious with keepers lower down, professionals generally work more on strengthening their weaker side than they do improving the stronger side.

I have never properly coached Keepers so don't know .

Outfield players will / should spend far more time.kicking with there weaker foot, again something I am told Keepers also do...

Patricio doesn't work on his weaker foot. All that is good for is standing on

He should be... I have seen him kick with both feet and TBH it's difficult to work out what his stronger foot is.
Kicking / distribution is his weakest point
