Welcome to Wolves Matheus Cunha

I think it comes down to personal choice - as brilliant as Cunha is, I understand why some might feel let down by him.

I’m paying money to go to the game so - like many - I’d always want him in the side because I love watching him. As I’ve always said, he’s a privilege to watch and we’re not gonna see much more of him in a Wolves kit.

That said, if you feel like he’s mugged us off and stitched us up, then that’s totally fine too.

But the latter element aren't going to shrug their shoulders and say "meh, that's ok" if we lose 1-0 and he's sat on the bench for 70+ minutes, are they.

It's performative nonsense.

No, you’re right.

But they’d probably argue that we’ve picked up more points since he’s been banned, than we did in the previous four when he was playing.

Well I would counter that we played Villa, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Fulham (all in the top half) in the prior four as opposed to Everton, Southampton, West Ham and Ipswich (all in the bottom half) in the following four :D

Just because there’s an argument that could be made doesn’t mean it’s a good one.

Our form sans Matheus says more good about VP than ill about Cunha.

I will say that there's something for us not just defaulting to "give the ball to that guy because he's outrageous for a team at this kind of level" but that isn't Cunha's fault either.

We've got 7 games left, I want us to try to win all 7.

I can see why people are saying leave him on the bench, tbf 😉

(But yes, I’d personally pick him ahead of Marshall every day of the week)

There's probably a decision to be made tactically when you compare Cunha, one of the players who does the least out of possession in the entire league, to Marshall Munetsi who probably does the most.

But when you actually scratch beyond that paper thin surface there's no question really is there.

Wolves fans have managed to develop some sort of complex re Cunha and I find it completely ridiculous.

Munetsi got himself about today which certainly was a benefit at times, and some basic hold up play was good too. But he’s just so lacking with any real quality in the final third and he’s a large percentage of the players in it. Certainly when he’s not the player playing the pass or cross and is the one on the end of it. He even tried a shot from 30 yards and hit it like a 13 year old shot putter (With a guy outside who could have worked an opportunity). So I don’t see losing that as any real trade off, certainly with the other 9 players behind getting through the leg work, this current midfield 3 has got to be up there in the league.

If you phrased the question "should Wolves try their best to win vs Spurs" then I wonder what result you'd get.

It's him or Marshall Munetsi, I mean it's a tough one. "Planning for next season" isn't really a thing when we all want large areas of the existing squad overhauled.

If he were replacing the equivalent of MGW in 2021 then perhaps the answer would be different but he isn't.
You’d imagine we will sell another player, semedo probably won’t be here. So by the logic of let’s not play Cunha you’d also drop Semedo and RAN/Andre (if they’re potentially going)

This feels a bit like flat earth and chem trails to me.
They've put the boot in on him continuously since Chelsea. You listen to their podcast, you've heard it, Keen even said this week there's people at Compton who are sick to the back teeth of him. They are normally completely compliant with any message the club want to get out, be it FFP or the support of GON when he'd lost everyone other than Wolftone. Don't you think it's a little strange?

Yeah I've heard it, but i think it's their opinions rather than them being told to have those opinions?

As for the GON support, not sure Judah was in support? Keen was though. I think like Spiers they don't like to be negative towards managers as they're nervous about a lack of words from them (which is weak and crap)

Cunha at Chelsea was the first time he'd dialed it in. They knew what was going on behind the scenes and with his representatives, Keen went in with both feet. It's so out of character I just don't believe they weren't asked to lay the groundwork for an eventual departure. It's worked, he's disliked by a large portion of the fanbase, more than I think he would be otherwise

Has the opinion of Cunha and his future changed over the last couple of months? I thought it was pretty apparent earlier in the season he’d likely be going. I’m not sure any ground work needed doing?

That being said, there are people who were confused as to why he didn’t play today 😉. So maybe common sense avoids certain fans

That seems a bit far fetched to me, what do the club have to gain? I know Keen isn't a very good journalist but I'd be shocked if he went that far.
I just think he's just using Cunha's behaviour and that he won't be here much longer to make himself look like he's a 'hard hitting' news man.

I’ve not listened to a word Judah or Keen have said. Podcasts or otherwise. He’s acted a dick on and off the field, I don’t think that’s debateable. I don’t hate/dislike him, but I don’t like him as much as you possibly should a player of that ability. That’s on him, no one else.

I'm in the same camp. I marvel at his moments of brilliance but I detest his petulant shows and his often failure to be a team player. WWFC is bigger than one player but if he can learn from his mistakes, then great. If not, fuck him off for as much as we can get.

I wouldn’t start him, simply because I don’t hugely like changing winning teams. And he’s a bit of a fanny

Will be gutted when he leaves though because he’s so much fun to watch. Waaaay better than Adama ever was. And nowhere near as much of a bellsniff as Nunes
