I would imagine most players would be a bit disgruntled that they've lost their place, or weren't in the managers best 11's. These are highly competitive professionals - they want to play and they want to be key figures in the team. In Coady's instance not only those things, but he's the club captain and huge influence both on and off the pitch; so if he's come back for pre-season and Collins/Kilman have obviously been setting up in all drills and pre-season matches as the favoured two, I can see why Coads didn't enjoy it.
That said, from a man management point of view, it wouldn't have take Lage much to pull him to one side and to explain the thinking behind it. It doesn't seem like that happened and that's pretty poor. It sounds like Coady has had to seek out those discussions himself and then asked for a move, which we've allowed. Pretty poor from Lage & co if that's the case.
We'll miss Coady in lots of ways. He always stepped up to the camera's after a match in both good and bad circumstances and was always honest. His smile was infectious and he seems like a top, top bloke who got the very best from his ability. I'm proud that our club captain was recognised at international level - he was a great ambassador for the club and he was with us through the most successful period on the pitch in my lifetime; so I'll always wish him nothing but the best, bar the occasions he comes up against us in the future. All that said, we have to push forward on the pitch and if he doesn't fit in and isn't happy with a bit-part role (and i don't think he or any of us would want him to tarnish his time here like that) then a move is the best thing to happen for everyone concerned.
