Double cream????

OH MY GOD that would be horrendous I reckon!

I would be making my own patty and then going down the juicy lucy route with some nicely sweated onions, mustard (probably dijon), tommy sauce of some type (got to ponder that as I do like the Paul Newman burger relish sauces as well as a range but we need some tradition here), iceberg lettuce, sesame seed bun. Possibly some sliced mushrooms, but I think that would be about it.
 
Heinz Fiery Chilli Ketchup is the mac daddy of tomato sauces. I don't buy anything else now.

Sides: Salt and pepper chips (I've got these nailed now I reckon) and homemade coleslaw.
 
Brioche buns are weird. It's like having a burger in a cake, sort of thing a small child would think is ace.
 
I find a good brioche bun is just more robust than your usual bread and that helps when you've got a juicy burger soggying things up.

Toppings I tend to keep to a minimum, ketchup and mustard or just BBQ sauce, maybe some crispy onions. Home made rosemary chips on the side.
 
If you do the cheese properly then I find you can do without sauce, there's enough moisture there. But I'm down with chilli ketchup, mustard (any kind) or "burger sauce" (whatever that actually is, I'm sure it's no good for you but it tastes nice).

It's all become quite a hipster scene though. The amounts that the likes of Five Guys charge are ridiculous for a burger.
 
I utterly and completely approve of the rosemary chips idea. Especially if you add a bit of garlic and a load of salt. Om nom nom.
 
I had a meal in burger priest next door to the Wallace before it closed. Squeeze and I agreed that it looked good, and then re-mortgaged the house.

It was average at best.
 
I've never seen the appeal of Five Guys, their efforts always look like shit compared to their competition.

Miller and Carter do an amazing burger with a big chunk of slow cooked beef on top of the patty, beef bacon and dripping sauce but it feels like the wrong sort of venue for tackling that level of messiness. Think my favourite burger place I've ever been is Honest Burger, who finally seem to be expanding their franchise out of London, that's there I first encountered rosemary chips too.

Aye, ridiculous money. I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, I did...but I didn't want to pay that much for it.

No shock at all when that closed and yet...they could have made a massive trade with a pop up stand outside the shop and/or near the ground at £2-3 a go on a matchday. Football fans are stupid, they make a lot of impulse purchases when they've had a drink or two. Chuck in a voucher for a fiver off a meal for two there. Basic marketing.

Give Smash Burger a try on the retail park off Junction 9. Decent burgers in there.

Absolutely.

Things like a bin lid are a very silly idea.

BUT - a burger can have a reasonable level of thickness as long as the condiments and preparation ensure it is juicy throughout. If it is too dry it will be very poor.
 
I find them far too cloying. Doesn't sit at all well with meat for me.

I do myself a quarter pounder topped with blue cheese and mushrooms, standard bap. Great stuff. We should have a forum burger-off (just to see if Pad somehow gets double cream into his concoction)

That is NOT an open offer by the way, I have a lot of projects on at the moment, running a burger kiosk from my kitchen/back door is not one of them.

I've never had a problem with their service, even when in larger groups, but I'm guessing Penn Road would be your local and I always tended to avoid that one like the plague as the parking arrangement is appalling.

Penn Road M&C is shite. The one in the Mail Box is a good one though
