Villa 2-3 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Both WB'S weren't cavalier under Nuno, Jonny played more conservatively and Doc bombed forward. Marcal is a cheap, experienced backup. He's there to be steady, not create. It isn't his fault big buy Semedo has zero end product.
Marcal doesn't have to create anything because Semedo is shit?

When was the last time we were 2-0 down with 10 mins to go and won?

There have been a few comebacks that spring to mind, Sheff Utd 2-2 in the 90s, Leicester 4-3 and Southampton 3-2. But 2-0 down with 10 mins left?

Between 10-80 minutes today was very poor. Slow, Lethargic, disorganised and sloppy in possession.
Villa were better than us in that period but it wasn’t a high bar to reach.
In all brutal honesty it was poor quality today from both sides especially defensively. Once we got a foot hold we transformed. Podence changed the energy in the side.
Most important thing was the ability to keep going and not settling for the point once we got level.

I love how I'm not allowed to extrapolate comments about RAN being a saviour but you're OK to translate my words into 'Semedo is shit' 😉

Of course what I'm saying is that Marcal is a cheap buy playing the more conservative role of the pair, and Nelson has the big profile and price tag, and the greater licence to get forward

If Semedo was replaced with someone else Marcal would still have been poor.

Semedo has been blamed for a lot, but it's a stretch to justify Marcals poor performances with Semedos price tag.

Anyway, it's not like Marcal has played the conservative role well.

Personally I think Semedo is getting better. He has enough ability going forward and has improved defensively. Marcal just doesn’t look very good as a wing back or defensively. There is always an error in him. Great heart that is not matched by ability

Holy shit those three goals! Villa thought they could coast and went to sleep. Why am I chuckling?

What a day. Absolutely immense celebrations for the second goal and the winner. Hopefully those who spilled onto the pitch will have just been kicked out rather than nicked. Probably the longest I’ve stayed in a ground after the final whistle when we’ve not been locked in by the police.

If Roberts’ role is also around set piece coaching (not totally unheard of with GK coaches/analysts) then there’s obviously a reason. We are already much better on the second ball and next phase of set pieces, as seen in the first two goals today. We always have two players on the edge to pick up clearances and sustain the attack.

it’s quite funny people getting really upset about him though.

Villa really did just completely fall apart. Tricky as Podence was, every corner/ cross still hit the first man but they couldn’t properly clear.

Deserved the win though for sheer persistence. Amazing scenes and some very, very bitter fans of on the vlogs which is always nice to see

I think that is because some people don’t like him or his personality which seems to be a bit marmite . I know the feeling 🤣🤣
Credit to Dean Smith who decided to hand the initiative to Wolves by removing his most influential players thinking he had the game won. Cheers mate!

I think it's because he comes across as utterly unlikeable.

Don't know what it is but he comes across as an old school bully type coach to me. I've never liked that type personally and I'm only going on the videos the club put out as I don't know him personally (obvs).

I still think we need to bin passing goal kicks out from the back though. We’ve nearly been caught out more than once and it is only a matter of time that we concede from it.

To be fair to Smith, he said they were knackered which they probably were given the traveling they'd done not 24 hours beforehand.

Villa squad has roughly the depth of ours by the looks of things.

Hence why we left Raul on the bench. I would have taken anything at 2 0 down and not looking like scoring.

The two things aren't really related. More to do with the manager inexplicably changing formation and putting Donk as a pseudo 10 and then not changing it when it obviously wasn't working.

Not saying he has. I'm saying it's a minor selection issue that people are obsessing over.

Marcal is an average defensive player, same as Hoever, Kilman or Saiss. Not worth getting wound up for, or having unrealistic expectations about.

I'm pretty sure that Bruno probably just considers him above RAN right now due to experience, team balance and his steady, streetwise qualities.
