Villa 0-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Should we keep WJ in then? I really don't see what he offers.

Silva puts in effort, which is the absolute bare minimum and WJ isn't doing that
Has everybody forgotten how bad we were when he started up top?

It is no coincidence our form has changed with an actual forward with a physical presence.

He wasn’t good by any stretch but first half he was restricted to winning balls on the edge of our area. Second half we improved as a side but he had no service. Part of that is his own doing as you never see him show for anything. I still think he’s took the pressure of Silva and for that he’s been useful. A big no to keeping him though.

They won the first half, we won the second half. I think it`s worth starting with Jose for his defensive contribution being as that is what we do most of first half, bring Fabio on for the last half hour for his energy. Neither look like scoring any time soon anyway.

That was kinda the point of my original post (and my team selection in the build up post), neither of them deserve to start

It was on, but didn't really watch the first half as we did what we have done all season there. Better in the second half - we just needed someone other than a CH to have the chances.

Realistically we have 4 players I would consider as regular starters - Neto, Neves, Patricio & Jonny (would include Raul, but we need to see how he returns) - we are not going to replace everyone else & some have attributes as a player in the squad.

Hopefully we hold onto the 4 named (we are the most vulnerable with Neto who was the 1 bright spark today). Not fussed if we sell off one or two others to raise funds, as long as we use it sensibly & whilst I feel a bit sorry for Jose we shouldn't be paying his price. He's not had much to work with, but what he has had he's done nothing with.

Few goals are likely when the only players we have taking shots are the central defenders who are not going to be as adept.

Tomorrow is the anniversery of the last time I was in Wolverhampton & at a game - this season was not the worst to have to miss & just want to get to the end now.

Got in the car in London at 5:25 and got back here at 7:30. What did I miss!? And should I watch the game back...
A contender for the worst miss you've seen from a Wolves player. One other proper chance (great save). Both of those were off set pieces.

They hit the bar twice early on and Rui had one save to make, in the 94th minute, thankfully he made it so these spawny bastards didn't rob points off us again.

That's it.

What for? He’s still not ready and slower than slow.

I don’t get the Jose hate, he linked play well and was a physical presence.

Our tactics are dreadful, we had one chance at goal in open play. That’s appalling.

It’s terrible football and tactics to only play for 45 minutes, absolutely no need to put ourselves under that kind of pressure and we could have easily been 2 down at HT.

I’m getting fed up with the persistence in these tactics and we show when we play with a higher press and tempo we are a much better team. We don’t have the finishing to play counter attack football anymore so we need to adapt and Neves is a different player when he’s not sat on the defence toes.

If Nuno continues this for the next 10 games I’d be happy to change manager in the summer.
I agree with everything except the last sentence, but as i said after Tuesday he worries me. There isn't a coherent explaination for how we approach games.

Numerous reasons or excuses have been given on here to explain away this season. I'm not sure I buy into them all, but I want to. Therefore come what may, he'd be manager in August for me, but he wouldn't if the first 10 games next year follow a similar path. I really hope they don't, but i have a horrible feeling it's just run it's course. 4 years is a long time these days.

Danny Mills described that as “if I was defending that I don’t think I could have put it over the bar”.

He also said both teams lacked quality, was very dull, Traore did nothing, WJ stood still in the centre circle, Watkins created a few chances for himself, as did Neto. The rest of each teams players did very little in an attacking sense.

Will be saddened as the last 4 yrs on the whole have been incredible & he is a likeable character - you may well be right though.

Would give him the chance to resurrect it as this season has been weird - no gap from last season & no fans in so not sure that that can be judged as normality.

I wouldn't say it was necessarily dull as both teams did at least try to attack at points. I've seen far worse Wolves games under Nuno, including when we were allegedly the Harlem Globetrotters last season.

Assessment of those individuals is right, the reason they had the better of the first half (although Rui made 0 saves) is that their centre forward moves and ours doesn't. I can't overstate what a burden he is, just standing around expecting someone to pass to him (it's then 50/50 whether he keeps it or not, and even if he does he'll just lay it off 3-5 yards). I'm sure he must know football doesn't work like that so no idea what's going on. He can't be *this* bad. Surely.

He sort of threw himself at it like he was defending it rather than attacking it. It came quick, but if he'd just let it hit him it's a goal. Coady should absolutely bury the header though

Not quite the same but reminded me of Gascoigne in 96. Still struggling to see how either didn’t end in the back of the net.

Said it in the live match discussion the other night football is a drab affair at the moment only people enjoying the PL this season are Man City and West Ham.
This season needs filing away in a dusty filing cabinet along with many other drab seasons of years gone by.
