Vacate the middle: boot the ball long

I did say on the 'where will we finish' thread, teams will have analysed how we play and how to negate this. I don't like this 'we don't change' mantra that Nuno keeps repeating. We have changed it but only to exaggerate what was working to the detriment of everything else. We didn't necessarily need to change much, but be a bit more savvy against certain oppositions and upgrade in some areas. As it stands we've not done either.

Our corners are unimaginative. Moutinho crossing for Boly etc is about the strength of it. Usually results in a). Goalkeeper wins ball. b). Free kick to opposition. c). Defender clears. d). We win ball but don't score/create.
Throw ins worse: Benno long throw resulting in less success than with the corners. It annoys me.
We have possession and by our own actions reduce the possession to 50/50 and arguably worse as it is much easier to defend an aerial ball than create something from one.

It looks like it is through the whole club. I presume this has been agreed by all coaches and the Sporting Director. I would say the data analysts and the likes of Cathro have had a huge input on this.

They need a rethink of this strategy as it isn't going to ever work.

You have to try new things and it doesn't really matter who came up with it, they've given it a go and it's failed. You move on (or back to what was working) and go again.

The worst thing we could do is persist with this, it'll get us relegated and ruin any youth coming through.

Surely to God Cathro and the Data Analysts can watch a game and see the number of times Coady is being exposed, and the even bigger number of times the oppo have the ball about 35 yards from goal with the Wolves players scurrying to get back? Four games is long enough. "Looked good on paper, shit in practice." We've all been there at work. Football is no different

If we can see it you would expect the experts to do so too.

My assumption is that this is a Cathro master plan, implemented by Nuno. They obviously think they can do better by doing this, and it may be that we’re just not good enough at carrying it out yet, but that when it clicks, we’ll be awesome. Maybe.

We’re not doing it deliberately to be crap, Nuno’s not stupid. I just hope it clicks soon.

The problem with Cathro master plans is that he had several of them at Hearts and the fans opened the champagne when he left...

Problem is managers don’t have that much time to play with, we all love what Nuno has done but we know Fosun will have no sentiment if things continue on this path for a longer period.

Actually, I don’t think we do know that. Nuno is the first successful manager they’ve had, we don’t know how they will react.

Results and league position will generally dictate how a board reacts, he’s got a huge amount of credit in the bank but don’t think for one minute they don’t act if things weren’t to improve.

What worries me about Nuno going is that half a dozen other coaches would go with him. And seriously, who the hell would replace him?

Al things Fosun would have to consider, look I think this scenario is still a long way off and won’t come about.

The best wolves manager in most of our lifetimes has lost two league game against 2 very decent teams. Might be a tad early to consider giving him the boot.

Not what we’ve said tho is it nor am I advocating he should be. It was simply stating if the current run of form continues he may be in trouble. That’s simply how things are now unfortunately in some cases.

No-one's considering giving him the boot, or advocating it. But if the club doesn't have a file labelled 'Possible New Managers' that'd be pretty negligent. I just think that right now it'd be a bloody slim file

I’d imagine it must be a bloody thick file given Zenga was on their first one. In fact it hard to think of more than a handful of people who have ever had any involvement with professional football who aren’t ahead of Zenga in a list of potential managers.

I agree with most of this, I just don't think Everton are a 'very decent team'. I think they are pretty poor as exposed by Sheff Utd, we just made them look good. Which we did with Braga and Chelsea too. We have made 3 average looking teams look much better than they are because right now we are bloody awful.
