Twitter Accounts

I have two invite codes for one of the Twitter replacement apps, BlueSky, if anyone wants?

Surely if musk has fucked it so royally the best thing to replace Twitter with would be nothing?

Bluesky no longer requires an invite for sign up. I've set an account up today but it's really just a placeholder for now, I have none of the time, energy or patience required to sort out building up what I've got on Twitter (which I now use about 20% as much as I did 2-3 years ago).

Also I looked and for a start I don't think Wolves have an account on there (they did set one up on Threads, which I never bothered with), unless Twitter actually falls over completely I just don't think you'll get the scale of migration needed.

Seems there's a bit of a push to abandon Elon's shit tip of a site.

So if you're that way inclined, feel free to follow me here: https://bsky.app/profile/oscillatewwfc.bsky.social
They're on track to add over a million new accounts this week.

It's a really interesting one; web apps don't often get a second wind of mass interest like this. I figured BlueSky would pretty much carry on like Mastodon with a small but respectable number of users.

I read the 'Character Limit' book on a long haul flight recently. Musk really is breathtakingly cunty - some of the shit he got up to during the takeover is scarcely believable.
He's a terrible mix of being fucking thick but also thinking he's really clever. He also seems to think that Iron Man was real.

Combine that with the Trump-esque fortune of being rich because Daddy was rich, but pretending your wealth is all down to your own inherent genius.

Dreadful, dreadful creature.

On a very petty level he basically jams traffic from Substack links, which meant everything I wrote in the summer got about 10% of the traffic it used to. Why does he do this, because he can, because he's a cunt.

Just read that the new subscriber count ticked over 1,000,000 today. Was at ~700,000 when I first heard about the ruckus yesterday.

That's a massive influx; shout outs to the engineers there who are probably pulling all sorts of wild hours to keep the servers from catching fire.

@BarryBondage is available holy shit

Not anymore!

I've signed up to BlueSky as I'd like to do a Guardian style Twitter huff, but only a small percentage of those I follow have migrated. Wolves haven't for instance, so if you still need to go on Twitter it seems a bit pointless

It'll take a while, I probably should have walked months ago when Square Head decided it was a swell idea to basically block links to non-profit fan websites like mine, but it was the thought of throwing away 2,500+ followers and starting all over again...

As it is, I'm not sure how much time I'll have to post anywhere let alone write properly in the very near future, so I may as well have a look. Not flouncing off Twitter as such, I just won't use it very much (I've already chopped down massively since he systematically wrecked it) and any links to OW if I do happen to write anything will be Bluesky only (what's the point putting them on Twitter, no-one gets to see them with his stupid algorithms).

I gave up discussing politics on Twitter years ago - it's been poisonous for a long time and was only getting worse. Hopefully the cuntbag element of Wolves support doesn't cross over to Bluesky, we do have some appalling "fans".

Let me know when things swing away from Twitter.

I only use the place to see what others are posting and share funny/wtf shit on here.

It's certainly picking up speed; especially now it has an app. Haven't seen much Wolves stuff on there yet though.

Liking Bluesky a lot. I dumped Twitter 3 years ago. This seems like a platform for the good guys.

It's looking so much better now. I had a lot of history on my twitter account and was reluctant to lose it as so many media outlets etc rely on it. But it's such a vile cesspit full of hate and bullying, I was only just waiting for an excuse to delete it. So I've downloaded my history and now deactivated it. Not sure I need bluesky from a posting perspective any more as life has changed, but I'd like to help build something new so have an account on there now.

It would be so nice to see X collapse ala myspace, based on current ownership. Shame for the people originally behind it who poured so much effort into it. Jack Dorsey has been a sell out though.

Switching sends a message. Now need the mainstream accounts to make a move, journalists too.

All the Philly Eagles journalists I follow have moved to duel posting in the last 24hrs. Obviously that's about engagement rather than morals, but hopefully we'll see something similar over here eventually
