The change of formation changed Jota's season. Had we stuck with 4-3-3 not a lot would have changed for him.

I think it's a combination of both. He was far too wide in our 3-4-3 and wasn't taking players on, he wasn't going past players like he did on Wednesday for example when he ran 50/60 yards down the line. He was injured too and Nuno has mentioned this and i think had it been anyone else he would have rested him sooner but he loves Diogo and who can blame him. Since his return to fitness and our change to 2 up top he's shown exactly what he is capable of and what he could do in the future, unbelievable footballer.

The injury was key, the formation has definitely helped but I think he'd still be causing as much damage from the left as he is in a more central role. Not having control of the midfield didn't help either as he wasn't being fed enough to work with.

I wouldnt say he was in the wrong role, we just didnt control the ball as much and he was too far back. He absolutely excels at the edge of the offside trap and at counters, maybe we didnt have as many counters? I cant remember. I think his confidence was fucked too, I remember him missing some good chances due to bad luck early on

For Jota, I think it was his injury that made his performances below parr to start off. Diogo in full flight will cause problems whether he's wide or through the centre. It's his ability to bounce off hard challenges and maintain control of the ball that amazes me, early in the season he wasn't doing that.

There was something linked on this forum back in October or November that had Jota down as a Prem League flop. Think he has proven that to be a tad wrong

He was played in the exact same position he excelled in last season, some people were just happy to write him off after a few quiet games though.

I don't recall anyone "writing him off". I recall people saying his (and the other forwards') contribution was lacking, but no one was calling for him to be immediately sold in the winter window, lets not get carried away.

I voted Raul. Hard to argue against Moutinho though.

Not get carried away? He was held in the same regard as Costa, ‘not being able to cut it in the Prem’. Let’s not re write history.

I definitely thought he just wasn't up to it. Happy to be wrong.

Moutinho for me oozes class and skill - a great influence to younger players - I really look forward the maestro's corners and free kicks

"Moutinho has been the best player on the pitch - in fact he IS the best player on the pitch." Arsenal fans forum the other night :)

Raul and Jota didn't look great to start with in the 3 4 3, and I remember the debate about Rauls finishing. To begin with he scored against Everton then missed plenty of really good chances. It changed for Raul with the Chelsea goal. We know now that Jota was not fit, but the first few games nothing was coming off and he cast a petulant shadow as he was clearly as frustrated as the fans watching. Really pleased for both of them that they clicked in December and have gone from strength to strength. Also remember that the majority of us would have taken 200 k for Coady and Doherty two years ago when Fosun first came in and the welcome to Wolves threads for Bennett and Ruddy were hardly glowing praise. So six players in the first team squad who raised various concerns for a variety of reasons are pretty integral cogs in our squad and I am chuffed they have done as well as they have.

The only two I am disappointed with are Costa , whose confidence looks shot, and Traore who looks a one trick pony.

Raul misses as many good chances now as he did at the start of the season. Missed 1 yesterday and 2 v Arsenal for starters.

He has 15 goals in the bank now. He had two,one being a penalty , when we debated it

I can't remember a season when this question was as difficult to answer as I'm finding it now.

Moutinho probably edges it as he is just sheer class, love watching him in midfield, and I constantly remind myself how lucky we are to watch him play for us. He's everything I always wanted from a midfield player

It has to be Moutinho despite massive competition throughout the team, just his class, nous and guile make us a tough proposition for anyone
(except Huddersfield lol)

so many candidates vying for this, but eventually its goals that have got us where we are this season. Raul & Diogo have been fantastic but i feel Diogo has been the catalyst with his drive and power to run defenders ragged, so am going for him.
